Rem 700 Safety issue ??

I have been putting together a build and pretty much have everything done but have noticed that the safety lever on the Remington trigger is not operating like it should. Without the bolt in the action the safety works fine...when the bolt is in the action and closed, the safety is extremely hard to pull back on to put it on safe...it moves forward to the fire position just fine but you almost feel like you are going to bend the lever to get it back on safe. When you lift the bolt to the uncocked position the safety lever works fine forward and rearward...any ideas? Thanks

Have you tried to adjust your trigger fully? Sounds like the bolt cocking piece is putting the internals in a bind when it sets it

Do you have an old style trigger that locks the bolt and perhaps a newer bolt that does not have the relief cut under the bolt handle for the locking arm to go into?

Visually inspect the channel shaped spring from the aft end of the trigger group to ensure that the channel shaped SPRING to detent the 5/32" safety lever ball is centered onto the safety lever pivot PIN & not into the Mutant "E" clip groove.

Bolt lock safety levers will not engage into the bolt bodies on bolts after "E" pre-fix numbered receivers because the safety lever cut was omitted.

Yes, the trigger is adjusted right and it is the older style trigger that locks the bolt however this is a PT&G bolt...I will have to check on the "relief" cut as mentioned. I am sure the trigger is assembled right because it works fine without the bolt closed...it works just like all the rest of my rem. triggers...with the bolt closed, it just takes an extreme amount of back pressure to get it to move rearward to put it on safe...pushes off of safe just fine...I am thinking the bolt may be the issue. Thanks to all for the replies.
