Rem 700 Raceway pin gauge sizes.?

Can someone remind me what size pin gauges I need to cover rem 700 raceways? I did a search here but didn’t get any results. Thanks

A full length mandrel is the best way to find center of an imperfect hole. The bushing setup will only find center between those two points. I struggled with the Manson and PTG setups until I finally had 12" ground and hardened rods made up in .0005" increments by JGS. The largest that passes through the bore without forcing it will find true center of the warped and tapered bore. And you will get excellent lug contact after truing without the bolt biasing to one side.

Thanks for the explanation Alex—- I was planning on making my own Mandrals by measuring the sizes I need with the pin gauges. Even if I have a shop do them for me I need a way to measure and decide what sizes to order.

I'll check tomorrow on what sizes I have and give you a range. I also have them for Bats at .720 +/-. They were not cheap but they are excellent.

Get with your local machine shop and get some drill rods centerless ground. A member on here did some for me. I think theyre 12 or 14” long. You could get a good machine shop to do them in .0001 increments if you really wanted to get fancy

.701-.703 .0005 increments. I used to sell the set. JGS made them for me and my spec was.0002 for taper and diameter. My .7015 and .702 are the most used.

Thanks much Alex- that’s great info— I thought I remembered you advertising them.

Ok I read this again a few times cause I was actually thinking of making a mandral with different diameters at each end if the ends were different. You are telling me though that a single diameter mandral will be best though right? It just seems to me that depending how the mandral is attached to the action the large action diameter would flop around a little (for lack of a better way to put it). Of coarse I know it helps we are
indicating/ machining from the end. And the flop would only be a few thou so this must not matter much. Just a thought as I sure dont have the experience you do at this stuff. Thanks Much

Typically each end of a 700 will have a slightly different bore diameter. many times running 703 in the front. But remember I said my 7015 was my most used? These actions are all warped, a lot of customs are too by the way. That warpage is why you dont run into a loose side, the mandrel is bound up from the warp and you need a smaller mandrel to slide through the whole bore. On the chance you ever get a loose one, use a .001 shim under the rod in the front or use the action screw to lightly touch the mandrel. The wear on the front end of the action is on the bottom where the feed ramp leaves a sliver of bore left. Thats also why I dont ream them, tool push off up front means that most all of the cut will happen on the feed ramp, even with the guide bushing. If I wanted to get crazy on a 700 Id lap it but I already do enough work that does not pay LOL.
