Rem 700 project,stock question)

I'm wanting to build a nice long range hunting rifle, I am thinking the best is to buy a cheap SPS 300 Win Mag, knowing the first thing I need is to buy a good stock.

Question: Should I buy a nice aftermarket stock with aluminum bedding blocks? What about glass bedding it? Do I relieve the aluminum blocks so bedding can go in between them and action? or should I buy one without the blocks and then bed it?

Thanks,

Even the very best stocks with the aluminum bedding platform should be bedded.
Just a skim fit right over top of the aluminum will be fine........ don't forget the release agent 'O)

The aluminum insert will more than likely stiffen it up a little, but other than that a good pillar & glassbedded laminate is the way I like to go......
Those synthetic stocks just seem cold hearted to me....

Any rproperly bedded stock will shoot very well and the best all aluminum stock won't shoot for squat if the action is in a bind when torqued down. the biggest factor is the bedding all the way around. I personaly like the wood and laminated stocks better, several of my guns are piller/glass bedded in Joel Russo's A5-L stocks wich is the same shape as the McMillan A5 but the wood allows you to shape it a bit so it fits you better, here is a pic of my 260 built by SSG, the adjustable comb unit is built by Terry Cross and installed by me.

this gun will shoot in the low .2's , prone from a bi-pod all day long, hot or cold rain or shine.
