Bedding Recoil Lug with an Aluminum Insert

I have a Remington 700 in a laminated stock with an aluminum bedding insert. I want to bed the recoil lug. My question is do I remove material from the aluminum block where the back of the recoil lug contacts the aluminum?

Not the back, the front (assuming we're in the same frame of reference). The back edge of the block is going to be semi-precisely cut to the action screw dimensions.

I would, I would want the bedding material to be about .050" thick.

The recoil lug is a PTG .250" thick with tapered sides. It is pinned to the action (single pin). I plan on changing barrels in the future. Here is my plan to bed the recoil lug so far:

Mill .050" off of the front of the aluminum insert. Make sure the recoil lug pocket is deep enough. Tape the bottom of the lug only with black ecectrical tape. Make two guide rods for the action screw holes. Make the guide rods so they fit the stock holes closely. Make sure the action with the guide rods installed drops freely into the action (correct stock holes if necessary). Remove the previously added JB Weld bedding at the rear tang. Apply Devcon bedding to the recoil lug pocket and rear tang area. Skim bed the block between the recoil lug and the rear tang?

Tape the bottom of the lug only with black ecectrical tape.
Tape the front and sides as well (I've never taped the bottom, but don't see how it could be detrimental).
Adding some clearance there helps in giving a little "wiggle" to aid in removal. The only place that matters for zero clearance is the back of the lug.
