Rem 700 barrel swap

What are the chances of head space being correct and muzzle break being timed on a barrel off of another 700 action? Thanks Catman

I've had a couple that headspaced up just fine. Never had one with the lettering come out right, so I think the above powerball reference would be appropriate.

If either the receiver, the bracket, or the barrel has not been messed with, chances are very good that head space will be OK. Opposite is true for the roll marks. You can bet the farm that they will not. Not sure about muzzle brake, but that is the least bothersome to adjust.

Lettering does not bother me, head space only.

It is a Rem triangle barrel with break built in.

With a round barrel, you have a good chance of the rollmarks either being close, or somewhere under the stock line, out of sight (that is if dealing with a barrel with no sights), so you have at least an even chance of it looking OK, if it headspaces correctly.

With the triangular barrel, on top of it needing to headspace correctly, it MUST sit "squarely", with the triangle sides in the proper position, and the brake holes in their proper orientation, so I'd say your chances are about 1-in-360 (as in degrees) of it spinning on correctly.

Once I had one line up the lettering perfect and headspace. I should have bought a lotto ticket that day. I never expect to have that happen again. Ever.

I wouldn't take one of those triangle barrels for free, and I sure as hell wouldn't pay a nickel for one! They are notorious for wandering when heated up.
