Rem 700 Actions

I have a long action in a drawer that I bought years ago. I just pulled a $300 Remington Cabela’s Sale gun apart. After they get used, I’m only buying customs.
You mean No more stocks for Remingtons??:(:(

When the Remington actions were available
the SS SA single shot could be bought for 350 ish
w/the blue repeater for even less. Times and prices
have changed. LDS

I’m a full time care giver at this point. You know the drill. I’m getting very little shop time, these days. I got two stocks done in the past six months.
ok people that got a Rem Josh stock are lucky arent they!!! i have much respect for caregivers-- that includes you of coarse

Thanks. You should know that your stock is one of only five made for Remington actions. The rest are Tikkas or customs. What did you build with yours?
Someday, a guy will ask you who made that stock. You’ll say “Josh Boucher made that!” He’ll say “Who? Never heard of him.”

and thanks to you for that info. i have a collectors stock. I had a strait taper 243 barrel in it, that i have removed and now trying to decide what cartridge for it. I have a new strait taper .22 blank and a 22br reamer, so I believe that will get the nod. its hard to decide but Im using up the blanks i have (barrels- not many) before buying some more. I dont wanna put even a scratch on this stock hand made by the famous JB stock company.

I would not pay that for it. Unless they are being made far closer to a true blueprinted action! You can buy a new rifle for a little more and part out the gun to help offset the cost of just wanting the action! Plus no magic in the Remington action it is just that they were once as common as pigeons and they had a completely round action turned from bar stock with no flat bottom or built in recoil lug to deal with. Just like the old Small Block Chevy 350 was not a great design but it was the most built engine in America because you could get them cheap or free. When I was 19 living in Hinesville Ga. I recall a conversation over the CB were one guy traded another guy a case of Budweiser for a fully dressed 350 swinging from a tree. Everyone made parts for them. In fact around that same time I could high performance forged rods for a Chevy Small Block for less than a stock rod for a Toyota 22RE. I bought a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade at Gander Mountain for $500 out the door shortly before my now 23 year old son was born. So $500 for just a plain Jane Remington 700 action well the value is not their in my mind! Now if they built to to a much higher standard than they have the past decade were the actions were being fully CNC machined with actual QC it would be a different story then they would be bargains!

Mack Bros fits Rem 700 prefits and are $560ish.
I can't understand anyone purchasing a Remington action when they could buy a Mack Evo. They may not be the same quality as some customs, but they are far and away better than a stock Remington. I'm not a Remington basher, just stating a fact.

Well, I always knew my JB stock was very special but I did know it is one of only 5 in existence, in the entire world. Wow, that is rare. When I take that rifle to the range, others are always asking me about it. On thing they always comment on is the stock.

Now as far as the Custom action 700 action is concerned, I suspect those who are knocking the ones presently be sold by Pacific Tool, have not seen one. The one I bought recently is truly old school craftsmanship. There is no slop at all.

I talked to Wade today at the new Remington custom shop, he said the actions PTG is selling have all been bluprinted and the barrels are Shilen. I will post more later on the PTG actions thread, have to leave for work.

If you don't mind (or your gunsmith doesn't mind) metric threads, get a Howa action. They are as square and true as you can get in a production gun.
