So I had a factory Remington 700 bolt in my drawer for several years saving it for a project. I put together a rifle and used the bolt and a part of the build. Got it all done and installed the ejector and snapped in the extractor (factory remington style) and went to function test the rifle. I discovered that the bolt will not close, it functions fine without the extractor installed. I notice that the extractor will not slip over the case rim. I took some measurements and found that the recess that the extractor goes into is too shallow to allow the extractor slide out of the way so it can slip over the rim of the case. I compared it to my sons 223 rem bolt and I found about .025" difference. Has anyone encountered this before? Im thinking Ill try recut that feature on the bolt unless someone has a better suggestion. I thought about reducing the extractor surface a bit but there is not much material to begin with and then the bolt would require a "special" extractor to function correctly. I suppose the mini m-16 is an option as well.
