Rem 7-1/2 lot number?

Loading up for the state matches, and realized I need to open a new brick of primers to load it all, so decided to double check lot numbers, even though these were purchased together.

Previous lot is 1176.

New brick has 1176 1177 but the 1177 is covered with XXXX. Haven't seen this on Rem primers before. I'm thinking I'll just use the new brick for everything and save the last tray and a half of the previous.

Anyone else seen this?

From the FWIW Dept . I've been using Rem 7 1/2 for about five years now , and never noticed any markings on the boxes , nor have I ever noticed any differences in primer lots .

Generally I've not had much difference between lots of 7-1/2 primers, but when loading for a big match I like to have everything the same as I have been shooting previously. Same lot of bullets, powder, primers, brass.

If you are "chasing points" try not to jump component batch numbers in the middle of your match unless you have no choice.
If you have to, then try to make sure the changeover happens when you still have some sighters.

There is always a statistic with these things, and the primer's effects are in composite with many others such that their effects are often not noticed if they are minor. Good Luck with the matches and in for the after action report.

Yeah, I loaded everything with the new brick including ammo for the practice match the day before. Enough to get me a good comparison. Easier than trying to keep it separate on the loading bench.

I've seen this before. Stamping error corrected with new number. I'm with you on using the same lot for a match. If not it's time to tune for the new lot.

OK, finally got to the remainder in my stash.
The two matching boxes are from a 5K case I bought from Gamaliel Shooter Supply in South Central, KY. Yes, that was back in 1996, and the price reflects that. The other box is later from a local source, lot #41.

I still have a carton of lot# 330 if memory serves. They are the 2 legged anvil. They have a bad habit of blowing out a small pinhole in the radius of the primer with "not hot" loads, making a pock mark on the bolt face each time!. Reserved for my AR blaster. When I run out of them I'll put the new barrel and bolt in!
Can you check your anvil?
