Reloading for 308 Win 155 gr Scenar and using AR-Comp

Has anyone been doing any reload testing using AR-Comp and a 155gr bullet? I have found that the published velocities to be a bit optimistic. I am using a 26" bbl in my SAKO TRG and getting velocities in the 2880's not the 2900's that is suggested by Alliant. Max charge is shown at the 44.0 to the 44.5gr mark. I am seated out a bit to touch on the lands but that is all I can think of that might be giving the reduced velocities. Extrme velocties spreads are great though (14 fps).

I am wondering, do you notice AR Comp to be rather "smokey" in your loads? I have been loading AR Comp with 168 Amax, and it seems to perform well, but it is the smokiest powder I've seen.

Yes. As I remember it was a bit smokier. But the big thing was that I had to move the CED chronograph out farther so I would not get errors during shooting. It looks like a great powder but I was hoping for more velocity.

I'm using 43.2 grains of AR Comp in Lapua brass with a 155 Palma MK and Fed 210m. I only get 2810 fps out of it but an ES of 9 and groups in the 1's and 2's are the norm with my best being a .08" 3 shot group. I have to agree on the smoke as well. I just recently started playing with CFE 223 also and have pushed a 155 as far as 3100 fps before running into pressure but couldn't get any accuracy at that speed. I'm getting 2900 fps out of 49.5 grains and groups in the high 2's are average.

I HAVE HAD GREAT LUCK AND ALMOST ALL PALMA SHOOTERS OUT THERE SHOOTING 46-47 GRAINS OF VARGET NO TEMP SENSITIVITY AT ALL ZERO IS ALWAYS WITHIN 1/4 MIN ELEVATION AT 1000. 46.5 GRAINS VARGET IN LAPUA CASE, TULA PRIMER AND 155 GRAIN SIERRA 2156 BULLET

Thanks for the input. I get the feeling no one is getting the fps as was advertised by the manufacturer.

I've had mixed results with AR-Comp in my 18" AR-15. With the 75gr HPBT, I got better accuracy than with Varget at 2650fps or so, and functioned fine. With the 70gr VLD, it was accurate at 2850fps but for what ever reason the gun wouldn't cycle. That kind of freaked me out so I bought a box of Black Hills to make sure it wasn't the gun, and it cycled the factory ammo just fine.
