reloading data for .284 win

Looking for reloading data using 168 gr sierra Match king in a .284 win chamber. Any data would help!!!

AHHHH Dion, this is the quest of this season for me! What I have found out so far is that RL-17 and H4831SC are the powders for the 284 WInchester. This is the load which I am going to start with. CCR BR2 Primers, and ladder load 52.0 to 54.5 grains of RL 17. According to others, the sweet spot should be somewhere between 52.5 and 53.7 grains. Over all length for MY rifle is about 3.100 to 3.102 and that is right at the rifling. You might have to play with the OAL a little, but I feel that is a good starting point. Hope this helps - and good luck. ALso try www.accuratereloading.com.

ALO:

Don't overlook H4350, which has been used by Bryan Litz very successfully. It also burns a little cleaner than H4831SC which has been the best for many straight 284 chamberings. Both of these powders are very stable from season to season.

RL-17 can give you a lot of velocity, but work up slowly as it tends to show little or no pressure sighns just before you blow a primer.

I am currently working up loads for my benchmark 9twist 26" 3 groove barrel and intial testing is showing that 52.5gr rl17 is pushing the berger 180's at 2915fps and 54.5gr rl17 is pushing 162amax at 3050. didn't see any pressure signs for either but I also had my barrel custom throated long for the heavies my coal is 3.25" so be careful when starting. I am obviously using a long action. hope this helps alittle.

Guys. i am also playing with a straight 284 Win with a 10 twist Benchmark 3 groove and throated short for a 140 grain bullet....Going to be my little deer rifle this year..I want to find out will rl17 work with the 140 grain and 120 grain bullets. I want to push them hard mainly up to 300 yards.

i have tryed r17 in 3 different barrels and i couldnt get the accuaracy that h4831sc gave me , but my new barrel is banging with h4350 giving superb vertical

i have found that with RL17, it works better with the heavy bullets. In mine, i am only using 49.0 grains with a SIE 175 SMK and getting 2830 FPS average. Shoots darn good at a 1000.

I have had great luck with H4350 and the 162AMAX. I found that mine likes it better than H4831 or RL17. I feel these two powders seem to work better with the heavier bullets while H4350 seems to be the powder of choice when shooting the 162s.
