Just had my X-wife pick me up some primers at the Scheels Store in Fargo. I asked her to get 1000 215's, 1000 210,s and 1000 CCI 450's.

NOPE....PRIMER SHORTAGE!!!!!!

You may think it is funny, But I shoot compeditive LRBR, and I am not a horder. I buy 3000 primers a year ...just enough to keep me shooting. I know guys who keep 30000+ primers on hand all the time.

Funny....Not so much!!

I Wouldn't call it a " shortage " just because scheels in Fargo doesn't have primers. I have went there for a few odds and ends reloading supply's, and left disappointed..... More than once!

I never called it a shortage......THEY THEMSELVES DID. Would only sell her 500 total.

I got ya now, I thought by your first post you meant they were OUT of primers. Sounded to me by reading it that you didn't get any, I guess I didn't see where you said they only sold her 500. Anyways, 2 weekends ago I was in Fargo I picked up 1000 CCI 450s down at gander mountain. Maybe want to try there?

Have a good Christmas!

30,000 That's all?

Been talking to a few dealer friends I know. Some really dumb people out there. Look on Gunbroker and search P Mags you will see what I mean. Saw a FN SCAR get sold for $4700.00

Yep we are living it all over again.I too just looked on PowderVallies web site, you guessed it all that I want and need are on back order.Evn many of the bullets I want and need are gone,so its just not primers that are hard to get.The guy with lots of money and goes to the site at the right time wnis everytime. It'll be a while for me for CHRISTmas has sent me to the poor house. >:(

I stocked up this last summer with what I could afford. I was not as fortunate the last time something like this happened. Hopefully it is not true this go round. Not sure if yall have seen what has happened to high cap magazines in the last few days. WOW it is chaos for ar pmags.

If you are looking for primers, I would suggest 3rd Generation Shooter Supply (aka Gene Sears) in El Reno, OK. http://store.thirdgenerationshootingsupply.com/

I ordered 12k today. I mix of small and large rifle, small pistol, and 209s. They had large stock of most primers. They were out of CCI and Winny small pistols. Had to go with Federals. For whatever reason PVI was also out of WSP primers. Don't understand the run on those.

Luck in your search. I know the hoarders have cleaned the shelves at my local Academy and Gander Mountain. I try to always keep a couple of year supply of my components and just replace as I consume. I am not sure what some of these guys do with 30k primers... Maybe once I reach retirement I can find time to burn up barrels and powder. That isn't going to be soon.

Update......I just found out that the X stopped at the Scheels in Grand Forks (ND)...about 80 miles north of Fargo late this afternoon and asked one of the salesmen about primers. She got all of the primers on my list....no problem. The salesmen had never heard about any shortage.....they had lots of primers in stock.

I hope I don't turn into the guy who yelled "FIRE" in a crowded theater!!! :o

I am fighting the urge to buy 30000+ primers "just in case"!! ;)

No shortage here in Montana. I stocked up after the first Obama election so I have 20,000+ on hand anyhow. A shortage won't hurt me for as much shooting as I do.

Got a call from a friend who got a call from his friend who was at Scheel's in Bismarck this morning. They supposedly were selling CCI400's for $19.95 out of the back room. Were going to put them out front today @ $30ish?? I am gathering it was a nonadvertised price??? Told him I didn't need any but he was going to call him back as he told him to only buy him 1k. Since 94ish when the first primer episode came about I was down to 8K and swore I would never be caught that short again. If I live to be 100 and shoot 1K rds a year I won't run out!!! I have been hoarding since I started reloading in the mid 70's because there are few if any stocking retailers within 100 miles!

People will buy all kinds of stupid crap like video games, new cell phones only to be 'in style' and have the latest toys, including new vehicles, boats, campers, 4 wheelers, name brand clothes etc etc etc then bitch about the 'hoarders' because they only buy 200 primers at a shot, a 550pk of 22's(that is because the cheap ones don't come in 200 packs), a pd of powder or a box of bullets!!! If you want to shoot then 'be prepared', make a grilled cheese at home instead of spending $50 at Olive Garden or Outback! Then you won't have to have a hissy about 'the hoarders'!!!! Seems nobody has learned much about the politics, firearms and disaster/emergency preparadness the last 15yrs, wait until the last minute then bitch about no supply and inflated prices!!! I laugh at all the gents on forums that are stroking out over the rediculous mag prices and would surely buy 2(TWO) more if they could still get them for $15. Yea, why didn't you buy 10 or 20 when they were $15 instead of paying $50 each now???

Sorry for the rant but get tired of being called names because I am prepared, and I have been living on disability income and divorced because of it over 9yrs ago and live in the middle of nowhere where there are no Sales for reloading items etc. Go without something you absolutely don't need like those name brand clothes and be prepared whether it is for your hobby or for disasters etc! Just don't blame others!

Respectfully,
Dennis

you dont have to repent for being prepared its your money ilive in a sort of out of the way place myself but there are no shortages here in upper east tn. i am aware of . if they were to go up and probably will you will be set regards shooter63

Dennis, i hope you didn't take my use of the word 'hording" to mean anything dispariging. I was just stating that I don't do it myself. I never said, or do I think that there is anything wrong with it. And I was just stating that the STORE IT SELF claimed that there was a shortage.

The only thing in life that I wish I had "horded" was Walmart stock back in 1972 when it was 1.8 cents a share!!! Nine 2 to 1 splits later and $70.00 a share now!!! Do the math on a $100.00 dollar buy back then!!

You can figure the price of shooting components will continue to rise, even without politician-induced restrictions. World demand for raw materials is increasing as are transport costs. I haven't laid in huge supplies of powder, but when the CCI 450s in APS strips went on sale a couple years back I picked up 11K at $23.50 per thousand. MidwayUSA's price today for these was $39.99. That's a 70% increase over the price I paid! I like the APS strips because it's easy to prime a handful of cases when comparison testing.

Maybe we should trade primers contracts on the Commodities Exchange!

I picked up a 2k of misc. primers earlier this week from the Grand Forks Scheels just so I could keep shooting recreationally and at matches. I now have enough primers to keep me going through then end of next years match season, but as for the ones I picked up this week, last time this happened, I was stuck not being able to reload anything due to the fact that I couldn't buy 100 primers anywhere for a few months.

These primers will probably last me a good year, but hopefully things will settle down by then.

Don't worry Sir, wasn't directed to you in particular, just numerous posts on all shooting forums about "hoarding" from those who prioritized differently than us dedicated and obssesed shooters.lol I was just venting that I planned ahead just like Forum Boss mentions. Don't take a rocket scientist to figure that for sure labor costs will increase. Along with energy costs for transportation of rare goods such as lead, copper, brass and the cost to manufacture them. I planned for the future moreso from fluxuating energy costs and raw materials than a catastrophy like last Friday or an act of God. Figured it was 'money in the bank'. Figured more inflation of products/production than the income from CD's or Money Market accounts!!!

Was really just trying to hopefully get people to blame themselves vs someone that prepared. Seems they want someone else to carry the cost of inventory and then share the 'savings' when things go south!!!!

Gotta go roll around in my brass pile........ :)

Dennis
