Reloading 7mm Rem Mag

I'm looking for a little help getting started reloading for my 7mm Rem Mag. (I'm new to reloading but have had success with reloading my 6mmBR). Rifle is Browning A-Bolt 7mm Rem Mag with Boss, 26 inch barrel. Primary use for the rifle is elk hunting in Wyoming and practice at the range. Load development will take place in Minnesota is that matters. I have access to load test from 50 to 600 yards.
Currently the rifle likes Berger 168gr VLD's from HSM. But I think I can get better consistency and save a little money reloading myself. So I'm looking for some baseline help with the best powder and primers to use for this application.

I picked up a 7 mag Vanguard 2 last year as a backup elk rig. I use the 168 Berger with IMR 4831 and it likes that combo. I was told that you need magnum primers if you hunt in cold weather and since 2 years ago it was 20 below wind chill I stick with Fed 215 also. 5 years ago it was 64 degrees during that same December week but I stick with the 215's to simplify things.They work well in hot weather too.

I always used Federal 215 primers and had good luck with Reloader 22 and H1000 powders.

I am lucky as I have 1000yd range at my house. I load for a bunch of 7mm mags. you can try the 168 bergers but we all went to 180s as they shoot so much better in all are guns. what I have seen is don't let your barrel get to warm in a browning as they will start shooting all over the place.

I use Retumbo and the 162 Hornady Amax or now called ELD. The Retumbo has given me the best velocity and good case capacity. It's also accurate too.

H4831 or RL22, WLR, and 175 Noslers.

Make sure you set your sizing die to size the brass to fit your chamber. My Dad's Browning is the semi-auto and we set the shoulder back about .002" to ensure feeding from the magazine. My 7mm is bolt action and my dies are set so the reloads chamber with slight, but noticeable, pressure on the bolt down stroke. (I always double check any hunting rounds prior to going afield to ensure proper feeding and bolt closure.) You will get better brass life and less chance of headspace issues sizing off the shoulder vs the belt in the case.
