Reloader 17?

I have an opportunity to grab some Alliant Reloader 17. With powder so scarce, wanted to see what people thought of it before I do.

I am reloading for 6mm Creedmoor using Hornady 108gr bullets and per Hornady load data, RL-17 could be a good
powder to try. I have been reading that RL-17 is temperature sensitive. Anyone have experience using this powder?
I live in the Northeast, so not sure if it will cause any issues, but though it worth checking before I make the purchase.

Or should I just grab it cause it's available?

Thanks.

I'm also in the NE ... kinda.

I use RE17 in my 6XC with 115s. I use it fall through spring and save H4350 for the summer. Comparing sweet spots, RE17 gives me more velocity than H4350, round 40 fps.

I would get it.

I would get it as well. If it doesn’t work out, you could maybe on work a trade for something different.

in terms of temp sensitivity. It isn’t a huge swing. Unless you are shooting benchrest or are running a load that is pushing the ragged edge of pressure, you will probably not notice.

RL-17 is made in Switzerland and was used for the SWISS K-31 ammunition. Yes, it is mostly "cool" in
Switzerland. I found RL-!7 as a great replacement for H4350.
I usually take my ammunition to the range in an insulated valise (designed for picnic stuff! The cartridges are ~72 deg and will not heat up after loading into the chamber if you don't wait too long to fire it.
I have since changed to RL-16 for my 284 WIN heavy gun.
RL-17 is still a good powder!

I worked up a good load for my .308 with it using 48.1 grs pushing Berger 185 jugs. That load worked great when the temps were in the 60's, but in the 80's that load did terrible and I just didn't want to fool with making adjustments for the higher temps when I had other powder more reliable with the temp swings. So. . . I'd say it's a good powder; just that it is temp sensitive and one needs to be aware of that as one decides when to use it or not.

I developed a good load with RL17 for my 6mm Rem. There were 3 cans on the shelf when I bought it, but now I regret not buying all of it given the current powder shortage. I contacted Alliant to inquire about the difference between RL17 and RL16 and was told that RL17 is the only powder in the Reloder series that does not have a de-coppering agent. They noted that RL16 was also a temperature stable powder and would produce smaller shot-to-shot velocity differences. But, I'm more than happy with RL17.

Great in a 6.5x284 for hunting. Terrible in 6.5x284 for F class.

Same hole 3 shot groups all day long at 100. String of 20 at 600 or 1000 and it will fall apart. I guess it totally depends on your application.
