Reloader 16 6x47L Promising

Thanks for the test results. Can you provide equipment info, twist rate, neck size, barrel contour, etc.?

6x47L, 30" 1.25 straight Bartlein 1in8 twist barrel, .105 freebore, no turn neck .274 based on brass, Panda F Class Action, Master Class stock. Alex Sitman did the stock work and Robert Gradous did the metal work. I would highly recommend both of them.

My brass prep literally consisted of running 6.5x47 Lapua brass through a Forester 6x47 die, trimming and loading.

Shot a 589 - 21x today in competition ... note to self ... It's a little different in wind.

Thanks and +1 on Alex for stock work. He has made two stocks including bedding for me over the last twenty-five years.
I have similar equipment, except my chamber is a.270 which I do turn brass for fit and consistency of neck tension. (That's what I tell myself anyway) my best short range group was @ 39.8 going 3160fps. I only went up to 40.0 which opened up some. I will take that to 300 if the rain will give me a break and see if it holds up.
How was the verticle in that 589?

I dropped 1 low, otherwise good.

Shot the 39.8 gr. load this morning at 300yds. Verticle was 1" and horizontal was 3/4" for ten shots. Next stop will be 600 either next weekend in Louisiana or January at Palo Alto.
I'm also driving 140 hybrids in a 260AI with good results using RL16.

Wow, 10 shots at 300 yards with 1" group is sick. Did you get any velocity data?

This was the load running 3160 two days before at same range (100yds) and temperature.

As they say in Louisiana, Dat'll do.

Lanny at Palo Alto taught that when your trigger pulling, rifle and load can maintain X ring vertical - that's all you can ask of it. When you drop points it's all on you, and your lack of ability do deal with the wind, pressure, etc.

Any testing on how temp sensitive this powder is compared to H4350? I would be looking at it for my 6x47L coyote rifles and the temp swings are quite large.

The coolest I have shot it was 37 degrees and the warmest has been 80 degrees. Slower when cool but not significant enough to change accuracy so far. The real test will be from 40 on first relay in spring to 85-90 on third relay.

Cmor and Wes,

Do you have known loads with H4350, and if so, what is your charge compared to RL16?

I am trying to figure out a starting load in a different chambering.

Thanks

The only common data I have is at 39 grains of each. H3450 had a average velocity of 3084 - R16 had an average velocity of 3129.

Which clambering are you looking for? I've used H4350 in my Dasher, 260AI, and 6x47L.
