reloaded w/wrong primers

I have deprimed a goodly number of active primers without an ignition, and this is what others report, BUT, be safe. Wear safety glasses and push the primers out slowly.

Danny
I concur with Danny. It seems the discussion of pushing out live primers has almost developed a cult like life of it's own, to the point of out of frustration I have deliberately slapped the handle on my press to see if I could detonate one. Not saying it's impossible, but I was not able to detonate one. Just saying.........and safety glasses should be a no brainer for most all things related to reloading.

Attached is a test i did to try to ignite a primer. Don't try it without safety glasses, gloves, ear muffs, and a towel around the case. I've handled tons and tons of explosives over the years, so I wasn't skerred.

Sure go ahead. I'm just happy Garandman found a home where people are willing to agree with him. :) Funny how everybody that is saying do it don't disclaim they made the same mistake as the OP. Safety is free.

Why do you claim this is the wrong way to decap? Someone could possibly cause a discharge with rough handling, but probably not. A safety wrap on the press should preclude flying pieces should the worst case occur. ?

You could just use one to prime an empty case and try to fire it to see if it works. I've decapped lots of live primers with nary an issue. just do it slow. They can be reused.

The use of the plier like bullet puller can certainly be acceptable depending on what you want to accomplish. Context is important. I'd believe that the collet puller or the inertia puller were "cobbled" and unacceptable to some at some point in their development.

So glad I found this forum, registered, waited to be approved, and searched before making an new thread to find my answer.

I measured, and the berdan .210B primer is an exact match (dimensionally) to the CCI LR #200 primers. I searched high and low using Google and the other search engines to see if berdan primers would work in boxer brass. I could not find anything. Plenty of articles of how to convert berdan brass to Boxer, but nothing about berdan primers in Boxer Brass.

I have about 3,500+/- Giulio Fiocchi primers (N.250B, N217B, & N210B) that were my father in-laws. Since I have a better chance of finding Bigfoot at this point than LR Primers, I thought I'd see if they would work in boxer cases.

New the to forum and appreciate the knowledge I've found here so far.

No they won't work. Boxer primeers have an anvil in them. Berdans do not. The anvil in Berdan usage, is part of the brass case. You would need to make and fit an anvil into the primer cup to get the Berdans to work in s Boxer case.

A few years ago I bought a pile of 6.5x55 surplus Berdan primed wooden bullet rounds super cheap.
Easy to pull the bullets, dump the powder (have a few pounds now) load with new powder, shot well. Reload with Berdan primers and shoot one more time.
Some were easy to deprime, hydraulically with a pin and hammer.
Some were NOT

You will have to wait untill some berdan style brass turns up so you can have the joy of reloading them.
I really don’t have any interest in that and I don’t have any firearms that fire anything with berdan cases. I will most likely see if I can just find someone else that can use them. No point in them going to the grave with me if.
