reliable custom barrel manufacture

My plan is to convert a tikka master sporter to a 762,53R chamber which is .308 caliber. Anyone here know someone who can master this task? The only issue i think there could be is the box magazine not accepting this cartridge. May just have to stick with .308 win.

Thanks

Most any reputable turn-bolt gunsmith should be able to handle that work, if he was willing to make the effort. The problem would be to adapt the bolt-face/extractor/ejector to handle the rimmed cartridge (a big if) and finding one who has a reamer for same. You might have to purchase the reamer, as will guess that they are not a hot item for most gunsmiths. If you want a new rifle in 54R, you might find it easier to go with a new 1885 Winchester High Wall from C. Sharps, or something similar. No bolt-face system to deal with and the extractor is set up for a rimmed cartridge from the get-go. The original High Wall was configured in 7.62 'Russian' and supplied to their gov't in the thousands back in the day.

But, no good Finn that I know (I worked for a Finnish company for a number of years) would ever want anything "Russian". Their relationship with their big neighbor to the east has been anything but 'cordial' throughout their history. Many folks my age lost family in the various wars they fought with Russia/USSR.

I didn't consider the bolthead/face needs modification as well. That's too much work. Guess I'll stick with .308 win. Thanks for the info.

Covert it to a straight .284 winchester if you want more punch and the 7mm bullets are very good ballistically.
