I have a 223 standard chamber from dpms. The 1:9 works great with the berger 70gr vlds.

Their web site says that they use a Wilde Chamber. With the world being as litigious as it is, I still do not think that anyone in his right mind would use a chamber that is not compatible with the 5.56 cartridge.
People concerned about accuracy would. I did a 1:7 in Wylde simply because I have a Wylde reamer. I double I'll ever run 5.56 out of it. If doing something for pure accuracy, 223 definitely. Each to his own...

I have all three. The chambers are cut for varying reasons. Throating and leads angle are the biggest diff. A 223 is far better when keeping to mag length ammo. IE the 70gr berger vlds jump very little to the lands when loaded to 2.260" and shot from a 223 chamber. A wylde chamber will keep the clearances of 223 but allow a COL of 2.450". Useful for 80+gr bullets, but not so much for semi-auto mag fed ammo. The 5.56 is a longer leade allowing a higher loading pressure of 62k psi vs SAAMI 223 standard of 55k psi. Me personally, I'll keep to the 55k since I'm happy with 14+ reloads on a set of brass. There are reasons to chose either of these chambers, but there isn't a one does all perfectly, you'll see the 308 guys make similar decisions on throating for 1k yards. Longer throat for heavier bullets, but then light bullets have longer jump...

My 223 chamber is used out to 600y with mag length ammo. Its a local challenge that several of us try. I like the ballistics of the 70gr vld over the 77smk, and wanted to see how it does when fed from mag.

My wylde chamber (WOA) loves everything, its my go to match AR.

My 5.56 chamber is for 3 gun.

Based on safety and the intelligence of the average consumer, I too would be surprised to see a 223 chamber AR off the shelf, but parts are still around.

Sorry for the rant, I'm sure I missed some critical info, and there has been a TON of posts on 223/556 chambers so just do a forum search. Thanks for the accuracy support ridgeway, i think you are on the right track. Let the flaming commence.

Oh, and my 556 barrel is mil-spec with the extra cutout. Totally tacticool while I pretend to be good at 3-gun and wishing I had a launcher to make up for my lack of skills.

My Wylde has a .025" freebore and seating to mag length is definitely being jumped and I believe that is the only reason why its 5.56 compatible. When I originally purchased(found it used on here) the reamer, I didn't think .025" was that bad. I didn't realize how deep a 77 needs to be seated in a mag. I'm working on a mag length load and then will find a bobsled single feed load. It's showing promise, but not quite what I want just yet. I've been working with 8208 and my give Varget a try next. A 223 Match chamber would definitely be the ticket for accuracy and precision.

O.K., Let's get back to my original question. Is there a current manufacturer chambering barrels in SAMMI .223? As I said, most everyone is using a chamber that is 5.56 compatible. And assuming that folks who are on this forum are interested in accurate shooting firearms, other than the "Tacticool" look of an M4, do folks actually put the barrel cutout to use? As "people" says, the current 203 does not clamp on the barrel there. I always thought it was a 40mm grenade like the ones I shot out of the M-79 and Mk 19. So--What are your AR's set-up for? I have a service rifle, a "Spacegun with two tops, .223 with a Wilde chamber and a top in 6WOA, varmint guns also with a Wilde chamber with heavy barrels, a .458 SOCOM, a .300BO pistol, and an AR10 Spacegun in 6XC. They are all fun. You should see what the SOCOM does to a pig. I hit one in the face and turned his eyes blew. One blew this way and one blew that way. It is a hoot to whack stuff with that gun. :P
If you want to shoot fully automatics, you can do it like I did; raise your right hand and put on the uniform. Over the years, my Uncle gave me lots of guns and ammo to shoot fully automatic. ;)

Does anyone use those M203 cuts? Almost everyone does not use them. Even in the service like when I was in there was only one M203 per fire team. That was also on a good day. Most of us fire team leaders did not get one. There are still many M203s out there and we will see them for a long time. Up here in ND the guard still had some M-16a1s that were still being used as of 2003.
