Regular Dies vs. Bushing Dies

I do not want to put in the time to turn case necks. Should I just buy a set of regular Redding dies or are the bushing dies better even without necks being turned?

If you'll be satisfied with the neck tension that you'll get with the FL die, use one.
If you like to tinker with neck tension, do the bushing die...

With a bushing die, you can select a bushing that just sizes the neck to the right amount of neck tension without overworking the brass.

With the right bushing, you can get rid of the expander ball and reduce case neck runout.

I don't turn necks, and the bushing dies work pretty well for me.

This is the approach I take. Good luck. JCS

I have not found this excessive neck runout that is always claimed is caused by expander balls. Bushing dies will cause as much runout in my opinion. The only way to avoid runout is a f.l. die with no expander. Like a custom reamed forster f.l. die. I load 50 per match, check runout. Anything over .001 get used as a sighter. About half are less than .001 the other half .001-.002. Thats with a bushing die.

Go with the bushing die. The Redding Type S FL can be used with or without the expander. Test to see what works best. Or Redding & RCBS will make you a custom FL sizing die if you sent them 3 fired brass from your chamber. Email them for price for your caliber.
