Redding FLS bushing die question

I just got my Redding FLS bushing die from grafs today and inside the box there an undersized 'button' or whatever it is called that holds the De-capping pin in place. On the die itself it is set up with an expanding button that holds the pin in place. My question is to i want to use the expander or should i use the other undersized pin holder. Sorry for my terminology. The die is for a 6BR with a 262 neck and my bushing is a .257. I didnt know if the expander could cause run-out problems. the brass i have is already turned and ready to load. This is my first bushing die and i just dont know what the proper set up should be. The weird thing was that there wasnt any instructions in the case with the die. Thanks Lee

Common sense should tell you to use the under sized one with a tight neck chamber and correct bushing.

they both come out to the same size with the bushing i use. the inside of the case doesnt change size just because the outside of the case is turned down. Basicly the inside of the case neck is the same no matter if i use the expander butoon or not. . My bushing is a .257

skeetlee: Just looked at all my Redding FL dies with the bushings: The 'button' that was mounted on the decapping rod/expander, from the factory, is for that use only. The 'extra' button, mine were in a small plastic bag), are for use when you do not want to use the expander, but still want to punch out the primers/ needed to hold the pin in place. Since I never use the expander, and knock out the primers with a hand punch, I use the 'extra' buttons as a way to protect the threads on the center rod from being damaged. Maybe I'm all wet about this, and you're correct: they never include not even the most basic instructions with their die sets. A quick phone call to Redding, Customer Service, would clear up the issue. You are also correct regarding the I.D. of the case necks being the same diameter, with or without using the expander. Since the bushing is not oversizing the necks, as conventional sizing dies do, the I.D. ends up being the same size as it would be if using the conventional die, then expanding the neck to .002' to .003' smaller than bullet dia. My tight, fitted neck chambers, with bushing dies 'work' the brass necks .005',.272' during firing, to .267' during sizing), compared to a factory 22-250, .257' during firing, to .244' during sizing. No wonder the neck splits after 8 or 10 loadings.

This issue is addressed in the Redding catalog. 'A decapping pin retainer is also supplied with all type S - Bushing Dies. This enables neck sizing without the use of the size button for those who sort and/or turn case necks for uniformity.'
