Red wine

Not much at a wine drinker either. Wine is reserved for communion. A brewsky a day keeps the Dr. away. I recommend my new favorite, Boulevard Whiskey Barrel Stout!

1. Akadama (Japanese, hard to find)
2. Ripple
3. Beringer Bros. (California, some is aged in used Bourbon barrels. If I remember correctly the rest is aged in 2,000 ? gallon redwood casks in caves).
4. Thunderbird
5. Christian Bros. (California, they also make a dandy Brandy)
As a young, dashing devil-may-care, steely-eyed killer of the deep on diesel submarines during the 60's, it sometimes took 3 or 5 of my friends to scrap up enough money to buy a bottle of Number 2 and 4. Getting back to Ballast Point, Calif or getting through Hotel Street on the way to Pearl Harbor could be a chore.

Try Bota Box, we like the Cab aged in Bourbon barrels. Or Apothic red blend. 7 Moons red blend is excellent. We like the Dark Horse reds too and they are cheap. Forget what the snobs say, if you find something you like, drink it. If you don't have a cellar, put an ice cube in it! When you find something you like ...buy a case or 2, the next vintage may not be as good. My price limit is about $10 a bottle.

For value, I like the Big Livingston Cellers 1.5 L. I prefer the Merlot but the Cab is fine. This stuff is suprisingly good. The bottle is $6.99-$7.99 at my local CVS. I like this stuff better than the boxed wine. I won't call myself an expert, but I live in a wine growing region and have tasted some pretty good stuff. This is an outstanding value. They also make a 3-Liter jug.

I'll have to give that a try!!

My go-to for just drinking is either a California cabernet sauvignon, or most any Spanish red, especially a Rioja tempranillo. As many here have pointed out, $10 to $15 a bottle is a nice price point, and Trader Joe's has great selection with extremely reasonable prices.

Doctor told me I need to have 8oz. of red wine a day. What would be a good choice? Would like a grade above red mountain....lol
A day without red wine ( in the evening, folks, not on the Cheerios) is like... well, I don't know.
Red wine wine value/quality - compares to purchasing a new bbl.
you get what - you pay for. :). What is worse, a headache - or a crappy bbl that won't clean up.
