Go for Oregon, but stay away from the I-5 corridor.
If I'm living right, I might end up around Baker City, OR. Real winters there!

Lived in Salem and Medford between 89 and Nov 92. Medford was OK liked Roseburg better short drive to the beach.
Ashland is San Fransisco North. Only place I have ever seen the crowd at the 4th of July parade not stand for the Honor Guard. My wife and I looked at one another as we were standing and said we had best move back to Montana.
When we were living there the state parks along the coast were awesome!!

Living in Oregon I would not recommend it to anyone who wants to retire. I live in the Portland metro area. Gun clubs within 1-2 hours, Douglas Ridge Rifle club-range goes out to 1000 yards and Tri county gun club - range goes out to 600 yards. A financial planner would tell you that living in Washington across the river from Portland is more financial sound. It’s your money. Oregon is currently run by an anti gun Democratic Party. It is only getting worse for gun owners. Do some more research before making up your mind.
Another prime consideration should be the fiscal and economic status of the state, especially with respect to the underfunding, if any, of public pension funds. Many states are fiscal catastrophes waiting to happen and tax increases will be the primary source of funding since most of the states are controlled by Democrats.

The town of Sandy is only a few minutes from the Doug Ridge club and about 45 min from Portland, half hour from Mt Hood. Beautiful area.
Or consider Bend, home of Nosler, and near another 1000yd range club.

to OP-- The Dalles is east of portland on 84 and right on the columbia river.
Hood River is out there to. World class windsurfing area. more places to check out.

I live in central Oregon near Nosler. Just got back from five days of camping on a beautiful lake near here. I'm retired and offer this: We have the most advanced and comprehensive medical facility in Oregon east of the Cascades. We have all the shopping, cinema's, dining, usual box stores you'd ever want, and access to hundreds of thousands of BLM acres to roam about. If you are a veteran, you will receive a nice discount on your property taxes, mine are less than $1,500/year. We also have a range that offers every discipline including cowboy action and a 1,000 yard range (Central Oregon Shooting Sports or COSSA).
We have the same days of sunshine as San Diego, warm summers, nice temperate spring and fall, mild winters with some snow that does not stay more than a few days. Great four season location.
We have the usual influx of Californicators trying their best to bring their lifestyles here, but most try to fit in eventually. But add in great fishing in lakes and rivers, hunting, beaucoup events, majestic snow capped mountain views and a four hour drive to the ocean. Been here 42 years, I'll never leave.
Oh, and even though you may hear of our idiot governor being a democrat, we do have very lax CCW laws.
You need to check it out prior to making a decision.

Appreciate your comments but taxes in Washington are out of control. One of the reasons I am wanting to move. I expect they will add an income tax before too long.
Oregon taxes are a fraction compared to Washington.

I have lived in both states. I spent 10 years in Washington state and my taxes were definitely lower. Oregon’s income tax is 6 to 10% depending on income plus property tax.
