Recommend cold weather headwear

Fellow sub-freezing stand hunters; what's your favorite hat for sitting on stand all day? I currently have one with faux fur on fold down ear flaps. The actual hat portion is simply insulated similar to my jacket. It works, but when I bought it it was a touch small so I'll maybe replace it if there's a good option available. Google thinks I need a trapper bomber hat, but it's only available in black blue and gray. Must be available in blaze orange. Thanks all

Do you want to be able to hear sounds or not? Makes a difference in what I use.

Keep in mind, the vast majority of heat loss from the body occurs with the head and neck. Some say as much as 60%. All I know if my feet are cold, I focus on my head and neck region.

For my normal deer hunting (usually warmer than your area), I use a smart wool gaiter that I can pull up above my chin and on the back of my cap. For my cap I use a wind bloc cap, but that does impede sound. When it is colder, I pull the hood of my sweatshirt over my head a neck. I have shot at the range when it was minus 4 degrees and stayed warm dressed like this. But I tend to error on clothes that are flexible and quiet. Of course warm core and lower body help immensely.

Having my neck area sealed to prevent heat loss up from my torso is essential to stay warm.

What's it made of?

Where did you find it?
I had a friend of mine here in north western Pennsylvania where I live trap that beaver for me and I sent it to Fox and fur company in Duluth Minnesota, and they fashioned it into a hat. No kidding that thing is ridiculously warm and comfortable besides! It was 15° that morning with the wind blowing when that picture was taken and I was snug as a bug in a rug

When it's really freakin' cold, like last year opening day, I wear a blaze orange camo hoody, blaze wool stocking cap, & a face mask. To hear, I use electronic muffs on the outside of the hood. With electric heated vest, pants and insoles I'm good to -30 or so. Macho man types may scoff at my methods, good on ya, go ahead freeze your ass off. Been there, done that. No more. What I have found out during more than 60 years of hunting in Northern Wisconsin is it's a smidge difficult to enjoy the hunt if you are not comfortable.

When it's well below freezing I wear a fleece balaclava, it's camo so during orange requirement times I add an orange neck gaiter rolled up on top. I have a tanned otter I caught and extra coyote, Would like a flapped hat in that combo.

Guess it depends how cold, but I love my stormy kromer wool cap. Stays on on 4 wheeler too

i wear a hat system
A Peruvian style hat than an larger loose fitting orange toque (beanie).
I have the outdoor research version and it works well as an addition layer for colder days, the longer ear covering avoid the riding up of typical toques.

I have also started using a neck gator

Cheers
Trevor

I have a beanie I won in a raffle. There is no tag or marking on it, solid orange one side the other is camo orange. It was better water proof before it got washed.
That and a neck gator and I am good to go.
I thought the compression stuff was a joke till I tried it.
