Recommend a trigger pull gauge??

I'm looking for a good, accurate trigger pull gauge that will go from, say- 6 pounds down to a few ounces... Am I going to find that in one gauge?
What would you recommend????
Thanks!
Wes

Wes,

I've got a Lyman digital that works fairly well, but it's a bit of a challenge to get an accurate pull at around 3 ounces; not because of the gage, just my fumble fingers. It usually takes a few tries for me to get the hang of it, but it's good once I do.

Ditto on the Lyman. When you are trying to test at a few ounces, make sure your technique is consistent. It's easy to get a lot of variation, it's pretty sensitive.

If you want to really measure sub 3oz triggers get a correx or somfy tec tension gage. Chris harris at bulletcentral.com sells correx. A tension gage like that is the only way to measure it right and consistent

The Lyman works fine. What you have to realize is unless you are willing to come up with big bucks for both a gauge and a way to reproducibly immobolize you gun and pull the trigger at exactly the same spot, the same manner, you are going to get some variance.

The trick with any scientific measurment is to never take one but to first practice and figure out how best to do it so that you get a fairely reproducible reading. Then what you have to do is to take multiple measurments and calculate the average - I would take at least 5. We do the same thing in the lab even with the most accurate instruments.

Gday all i'm in the market for a gauge as well so just to be clear the lyman will be good for 5 to 8 OZ trigger setting

This is really good advice and exactly how I do it. Once you get practiced at it and start taking multiple measurements, you'll spot the "flyers" pretty quickly. The Lyman will even do that for you (tally up all your results and give you the average).

The tool’s literature says measuring range is “1 oz-12lbs/2.8g – 5.4kg”. I personally have not tested anything in the 5 to 8 oz range. The lowest I have tested is a Geissele Match trigger at around 2.24 lbs.

The stated resolution for pull weight between 0-5 lbs is +/- 0.1 oz.
