Recommend a smith for unusual project

A good friend of mine is retiring from his job and I'd like to have a very special gift made for him. Both of us collect high end flashlights and I'd like to put a custom one together for him. The project would involve boring out a 1.25" tube for the size of the battery, and threading the ends for the button and end cap that I would provide. Does anyone have a go-to guy for random projects like this? The smith I usually use has a 8 month backlog, and of course I need it done in 6 weeks...

Just bore out a tube to 1.25? of what material? what length? I am a machinist buy trade (job shop). Im not sure there is anyone on here that can vouch for my work. I have a 16x40 mori seiki lathe at home, i think it would handle the job 😉. Let me know the details and what your time frame is and Im sure we could work out a fair deal, beings its a gift.

Go to any machine shop.

I wouldn't recommend that for a special project.

Sounds like Tac284 has a nicer lathe than I do, I'll throw in that I have a long solid carbide 1" boring bar, but he probably does too. --Jerry
