Recoil ?

I know it sounds selfish of me, but I don't much care about the guy next to me anymore. Having been subjected to being forced to endure hot brass raining down on my neck from the AR's and muzzle brakes of others, I simply go to the range and worry about my own comfort.

It's called shooting and with that comes whatever the guy next to you is using. I do take a shell catcher and offer it to the guy next to me when necessary.

Brakes can make a dramatic improvement for recoil, but can cause some serious flinching and punishment. This is the reason a suppressor is the best all around solution. Unfortunately, the additional $1K is a large investment. After day at the range only using light plugs and experiencing minimal recoil, I don't feel any more fatigued than if I had gone fishing and the TV volume is only dialed up to 15 instead of 30. Once you drink the Koolaid there is no going back.

Sir, I use custom molded ear plugs and a good set of ears. A brake is still noisy.

Agree... that is why I am a Suppressor Advocate. Let someone behind a suppressed rifle for a few rounds and they get a distinct look of amazement and taking inventory of what they can sell. It sell itself. I swore that I would not let my children suffer the same fate that I have for a hobby that I love.

That said, I am still not quite there on the Shotgun Suppressor... Kinda feels like trying to convince me that a Mustang II is a muscle car.

What about all that mass hanging on the end of the barrel (brake or suppressor)? Do they affect the group size? Do they affect the POI?

I have only observed them in testing, but the videos I watch on jonnys reloading bench seem to indicate no major issues. In some loads it seems to improve the groups and I have never seen the group be worse. He only shoots to 100 in most cases and that's almost nothing for most here. He also had a magnetospeed hanging off the silencer and that did not change much either. It has to change the tune due to the mass on the end of the barrel.

Today's top suppressors weigh between 12oz-18oz made with titanium and maybe some steel. With advancements in design, material and construction, the weight has been reduced by 20%-25% over the past 5 years. Whether or not a suppressor will shift POI depends on the barrel's thickness/rigidity. For AR15's there is minimal POI shift with the standard barrel profile, but the pencil/light profiles have a significant POI shift. For bolt rifles it is negligible POI shift with varmint profile or heavier contour. A light weight hunting profile will have a POI shift. The POI Shift is repeatable so I simply zero in my rifle with the suppressor on the rifle. As a preference I will always shoot with a suppressor, when target shooting, plinking or hunting. The shooting experience is that much better... you have to try it out and then you'll want some Koolaid!

Whenever I barrel a gun I make certain that the terminal diameter will be greater than the thread requirement. .223 Cal suppressors 1/2" x 28 tpi / .30 cal suppressor 5/8" x 24 tpi
