Time suspended? I have no idea what you are trying to imply but nobody ever mentioned anything about time being suspended. Newton doesn't say that nothing happens, he just says that the sum of the vector forces equal zero and the rifle wont move while the bullet is in the bore.

Once the bullet exits the barrel it can no longer affect the firearm. ALL the acceleration occurs while the bullet is in the barrel. The bullet begins to slow down when it leaves the muzzle because there is zero pressure on it and it encounters the drag of the atmosphere.

I'll just use the recoil energy figures I get for round A and round B.
Round B's recoil energy is double what round A's is . I figure one of Nathans "beast brakes" should cut the recoil energy by 40%

Breaks can be great. Depending on the design and how it redirects the blast (noise and shockwave) it can either be great or play havoc on the shooter and his/her neighbors. I've shot breaks that were so bad that even the shooter was punished (double up with plugs and muffs). Despite the recoil management, the blast percussion was unsettling/jarring! What's really hard to believe is that a Rimfire BR shooter for one gun will spend approx 54K dollars if he's shooting the really good stuff at a fair price.. to ware out that barrel!

A good comparison of recoil is shooting a 500S&W vs the 460 S&W. The 500 is more manageable than the 460. The 460 has more snap in the way it recoils.

Another thread gone out into left field. How about some info that might help the OP? I do not think his daughter is going to be shooting a 375 or anything like that. So the question is, how old is she? How big is she? And what do you have in mind for a rifle for her? Something like a .223 or a 243 or something larger? Is she hunting or just getting started in shooting targets? Info like that would help a lot.

Not to cause an ruckus... but what are you talking about? The OP on Page 1 made no mention of a daughter or best caliber with minimal recoil or did I miss something???

What shows up on my computer for OP post #1 to this thread is "Spent time reading what a "search" had to offer, but left a bit confused, So, which of the two is the best for determining what my old shoulder will fell , recoil energy, or recoil velocity ??"

The flow of this thread makes perfect sense. OP asked about defining what is recoil. The discussion moved to identifying potential cause and factors that can affect how it is felt by shooter. And finally suggestions on ways to mitigate the recoil. The OP is even participating in above discussion about Brakes. Unless I misunderstood the OP, the only left field flyer is your comments. If I am mistaken then please accept my humble apology.

What Dusty said really came to life for me, I personally hate a 308 because of the snappyness and love the 30-06 because to me it is more of a "shotgun push" and will do a little more. Gary Gore

Kinda like smoking` ribs. Prep,grill setup,standing or sitting and tending the ribs. Total 5 hours+/-. Damn company will eat`em in 5 minutes!!

I no longer do recoil. My .223 weighs 17 lbs. People on the line don't even know I have shot it.

A good muzzle brake is the way to go to reduce felt recoil by at least half. There is a downside. No one will want to be beside you because of the blast. And it will be louder to the shooter. With my .308, I need to wear foam plugs and the outer muffs to reduce the noise. The foam plugs makes it sound about like it did before the brake. Well worth it my my opinion and makes the rifle much more controllable. I used a Witt bolt on brake for my .308.
