whats your favorite recoil pad
I was recently engrossed by an article describing an independent hammer test, yielding kick eez being the best one, then i realized that the article had all the signs of being a paid sponsorship type of thing.
Anyway, best recoil pad out there?

In my shotgun shooting days, I used the Kick Eez pads from the time they started selling them. They remain soft for many years of use. The material also helps keep the buttstock in the correct place on your shoulder once the gun is mounted.
Kick Eez gets my vote.

It depends on the application.

For shotgunning, I use either the Kickeez pad or the Pachmyr Decelerator pad. I like the Kickeez pad slightly better than the Pachmyr pad but there is not a major difference. I think the Kickeez pad distorts less under recoil and provides slightly better recoil absorption. The Decelerator pad comes in a version with a hard insert at the top of the pad. I prefer this version since it slides on your clothing better during gun mounts.

For rifles, I prefer the thin Pachmyr rifle pad. It provides a non-slip base for the rifle when the butt is placed on the floor. Thicker pads may provide more recoil absorption but they also flex under recoil which alters sight alignment and affects accuracy (I can't prove this, but I believe it). The flexing is not significant under normal hunting conditions but could be an issue under target conditions.
