Rechambering a 40-x in 6mm Rem to 6br Question

I have a Remmy 40-x with a 9' twist 6mm Rem barrel on it. I am contemplating sending it to a smith and having the barrel cutoff and rechambered to a 6mmBR, with a no turn neck. I don't shoot the 6mm much, if at all, and am thinking the 6BR would give me something to play with....

Would there be any issues going this route, to get my feet wet with the 6BR?

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Tom

If the 6mm shot OK for you your in good shape with the redo, if it didn't it won't get any better with the 6br chamber and will be a loss of money....
If you can afford it go with a custom barrel and you will not be disappointed....

Twer me, I'd cut my losses now. If the factory tube doesn't have alot of rounds through it, you should be able to peddle it for $100.00, depending, and put the cash into a new tube. Chambering prices are the same either way, spend it wisely.

Ever consider buying a new tube and having a swith barrel?

If you have the dough, that is what I would do, or have the gunsmith give you an option on just how good the 40x barel is.

I had a 27&1/2' 9&1/4tw 6mm Rem factory SS 40x take off barrel with had shot approximately 500 rounds, we rechambered it to a 6BR Norma no turn 272 nk using a PT&G reamer and screwed it on one of my brother-in-law's trued 700's and it shoots both 75 & 87 Vmax's as well as most of our custom new barrels. My smith left the barrel at 26'.

Or you could simply trade in the 6mm Remington 40X on one in 6mm BR. It comes in three different twist rates: 10, 12, and 14. It does require neck-turning as the neck diameter is .266' Good shooting!
