Rechambering .223 to 22BR

I have been shooting my .223, 1 in 9 twist shilien, with good success using the 75 A-Max. I was considering rechambering to the 22BR due to the inherent accuracy the BR case and increased velocity. My main question is: with the increased velocity will the 1 in 9 still shoot the 75s well? It seems like the faster you push a bullet the less twist you need to stabilize it. I know I am right on the edge of stabilizing the 75 A-max bullets and want to make sure I'm not taking a step backwards. Also, would a 24" barrel be sufficent to take advantage of the increase case capacity vs. the 223.
Thanks,
Mitch

Remember that you will have the open the bolt face up quite a bit or replace the bolt as the 22BR has a 308 size case base.

I'm with Travelor, you have to open the bolt face first and foremost! Did you plan on setting back this Shilen barrel and having it rechambered to 22br? Stabilizing the 75gr A-maxs shouldn't be a problem because you were on the edge of stabilizing them anyways with a 9" twist .223. With the extra case capacity of the br cartridge, you should be able to push them plenty fast to stabilize them.

if you are shooting a savage, you can replace the bolt head only, changing to a 308 size. I had a 223 barrtell recambered to 22-250 ackley (stock savage 1-9 twist) by fred moreo and it does great with the 75 amax. I also have a 22 br barrel chambered by him and it too is a great long range varmint choice. ronfoster
