.223 to 22br???

Hi guys. Newbie with a question. I have a new .223 barrel for my savage that I would like to change to a .22 br. Will the 1/9 twist be ok for the .22br? Or should I order a new tube with a slower twist? Looking to shoot 50-60 grain bullets. thanks for any help you can give me. dcl

It should work fine, especially for the heavy bullets.

A 1 in 9 twist might be a bit much for the 50 grainer's, but will handle 75's just fine.

Hi go for it i have a 223 6.8 twist i am testing and has shot Sierra's from 55gr BlitzKings 3364fps to 90gr MatchKings at 2845fps no troubles the only failure i have had is with 75gr A Max's one split a jacket in the barrel and left lead fouling in it i will no longer use them in a 6.8 twist.

this is great news. I really wanted to do something with this barrel and if it will work im going to send it in. thanks for all the input. lets see this makes ongoing gun project number 5 I think. but thats why we go to work right? dcl

well guys since I can't seem to find a smith that will rechamber the barrel for me unless they charge 75% of the cost of a new tube, I am thinking about just ordering a new barrel. What is the best twist for the 22br with 50-60 gr bullets? looking at ordering a pac-nor I guess. really wanting a no-turn neck. what neck should I order? anybody need a new large shank 223 tube?? thanks for the help. dcl

What is the measurement on the barrel shank? I need a 1 1/8" tenon for a project.
