Rechamber job

I have a .224 8 twist barrel that was in 223 rem but I can not keep it from trashing my brass unless I use lapua. Don’t really want to get into the causes or possible reasons as they have been worked over good in previous threads. Anyways, it’s always shot well and at 26” I’d like to maybe get the tenon cut off and rechambered for a different cartridge. Possibly 1,000 rounds down it and the throat looks fine. Does anybody want to tackle such a task asking for a charity case here. It’s a nut barrel as I have several savage actions and a bighorn origin. Thanks men

What do you want it to be?
Got to be a short action, and 22 cal other than that it don’t matter. Not 223. I can’t get a bolt head if need be. Wouldn’t mind a 22 arc but I figure reamers is a little scarce. Suggestions ? Reamers on hand ?

Im not going to ask why your 223 doesnt shoot, one of my all time favorite cartridges. But my vote and second favorite is 22BR. Such an awesome cartridge to shoot. Who doesnt love slinging 90s at 3000 with stupid consistent accuracy

I do appreciate it. Mine shot pretty well and consistently . Just seemed to have gremlins. Ready to get shed of them

I was going to suggest 22arc. More or less the same thing as a 22br

The only problem 22 ARC is you need to buy a Grendel bolt head to get shooting if you don't already have one..

Where if you already have a standard 308 family .470 bolt head your ready to rock with 22 BR. I also prefer the lapua brass to anything else.. I have over 40 firings on some

You'll also want a 22ARC bolt action specific reamer with a much longer freebore to get the heavies up out the case so they dont eat up case capacity to maximize the cartridge in a bolt gun...

If not a 22 arc long freebore reamer than you want to throat it out for 85.5/88ELD/90smk where the boattail/bearing surface junction of said bullet is just above the neck/shoulder junction...

22 ARC was designed for an AR to fit in a mag...

I doubt those will spin in a 8 twist.

I have a 220 Swift reamer, dies and brass for sale. It will require a different head size than a 223 size. I don't know how the feeding would be on a semi-rimmed case, but it can be done.
What's not to love about an 8 twist Swift??

Well……. I have a 9 twist 22/250, and a 8 twist 22x47
