rechamber factory barrel

Ive always wanted a 22-250AI, well i did some work for my dad awhile back and instead of paying me he gave me his never fired xr-100!! i gladly accepted it ;D
So is it worth it to rechamber the factory barrel or just get a new custom barrel??
oh and the factory twist rate will serve me fine....for now.

i'd give it a whirl as it is. if it shoots to satisfy you then rechamber it. if not then i would get a custom. i had the same gun, it shot really good but copperfouled pretty bad. accuracy really dropped off after only 10 shots or so. put a HART 12 twist on it in 6mmbr. shot in the low .2's and have shot as many as 60 shots without a cleaning and little to no accuracy loss.

Thanks, I was going to see what kind of groups i could get out of it first, ive also heard of the quick fouling. i guess the only way to see is to try it out.

I had simular flowing problems, I got a "fire lapping kit" and it worked wonders, just as I had it where I wanted it, someone came along with more $$$ that sence, so I'm now looling a fast twist Savage rifle,
Ain't it always something

You wanna sell that old new barrel.Did you follow the break in procedure? It makes a difference. But if you dont want the barrel pm me soon.

Most times, you are better off with a custom barrel than having a bunch of money wrapped up in a factory barrel that likely will never shoot on par with a custom.

That 22-250 is a barrel burner as well, and if you want to rechamber it, do it now before you erode the throat and make cutting a concentric chamber more difficult. The reamer pilot will need clean metal to ride on, and fresh barrel is much better than one fired with a hot round like a 22-250.

I was told this by a very respected smith from the forum, and I gave up the idea of rechambering my very low round .243 to .243AI. It's just better to start with a really good barrel than take a chance on a factory tube, especially one that has been fired with a hot round.
