Probably a dumb question, but can I run a 6.5-284 reamer into my 6.5x47 chamber? I have about an inch I could cut off, but would prefer to leave the barrel 26”. Thanks

Whoever made the reamers id call them and see if theyll give you some. May be able to measure few time fired unsized brass compared to the reamer

In most circumstances, yes. The 6.5-284 chamber is larger and longer and the length of the 6.5X47 is so much shorter that there is virtually no likelihood of not having the neck clean up. Why you would want to do such a thing is a separate question. If this is a hunting rifle with a standard short action magazine there will be trade offs.

Yes you can.

Should work just fine. Shooting a LR barrel now that I did the same thing with; shoots well.

A very good observation Mr Roeder. A poor choice of new caliber.

It is a long action and it will be a hunting rifle. Love the 47, but it will never have the barrel burn out either way as it will be used for hunting. Thanks guys.
Hog, thanks for the pic.

cut the inch off, no brainer.

Use reamer pilots to check for wear in throat dia.

On the other hand, you could cut off even more, make it a little 6.5 BR and make the guys happy who must have heard the rumor that new barrels are no longer going to be available (and that all barrels must last as long as possible).:D
