Chamber currently 6.5x47
can i go to 6.5x55 min match spec chamber without losing more than inch of barrel?

Or would 6.5-257AI be a better fit based on previous 6.5x47 chamber

my concern is taper of 6.5x55 case

I think that you would have to set the barrel back a bit due to the Swede taper as you suspected. By my calculations, the case body of the Swede is slightly smaller, 0.007 or 0.008 inches, than the 6.5X47 at the same distance along the case body where the shoulder begins on the 6.5X47, but the body diameter of the Swede at the case head is about 0.009 inches larger that the 6.5X47. An inch of setback should give you plenty of metal to cut the new chamber. If you are thinking about an AI, you might be able to run a 6.5X55AI in without setting it back at all, but I don't have any dimensions to work with.

6.5x55 AI would be easier to find dies and reamers for. Since you are going towards a long action round don't negate the 6.5-06 either.

Not knowing as to why you want to rechamber another option would be the 260 rem or the 6.5X284.
