Received Targets Today

Thanks to all the members for recommending rimfire 50-yard targets. I settled on the A 17 tagboard targets which seem perfect for my informal target shooting with my new Tikka T1X.

Today I received a pack of A 17 targets that have a 1 1/2 bull, 10 bulls to a target. I ordered the orange bulls so that my old eyes won't lose the reticle against a black bull. :(

My plan is to shoot 3 shot strings at each bull for a match total of 30 shots, all off a bipod and rear rest. The really nice aspect of these target is I can shoot an entire match without having to go down range and change targets. I should be able to accurately score my shots with limiting 3 shots per bull.

Why, when I googled NRA A17 target it says 50’.
They have a 1 1/2" bull which is perfect for shooting at 50 yards off a bipod and rear rest. The 50-yard small bore target bulls are way too large for precision bench shooting.

My Tikka rarely throws a shot outside a 1" ring off a bipod even with CCI SV ammo thus the A17 target gives me a more challenging and appropriate size target. The 9 ring is exactly 1/2."

In addition, it has 10 bulls per sheet plus one sighter bull. By shooting 3 rounds at each bull I can get a 30 round match without changing targets. The 3 shots groups are also easy to score.

Was out today and tested them. Works perfect for me. I shot a 96.6. :):):)

See post#5 for picture of A17. I ordered the ones with the orange bulls; I can see the reticle better with my old eyeballs against the orange background.

The A17 is the 50 ft indoor conventional target.

I wish I could see where all my shots hit on a black bull. At 50 yards even with 45x mag for my scope I find it iffy to use those NRA style targets. I always need a lighter colored target with black rings.

I put 1/4" dots on the back of the target with a 3" spacing and intend to hit in the open area between them. My gun is sighted 1.5" low and 1.5" right. On the white background I don't have a problem seeing the bullet holes. However, if a shot lands too close to the black target dot it gets confusing.

I am using the A17 targets with an orange bull. I can see the holes and scoring rings very clearly with a 30X spotting scope at 50 yards. I shoot 3 shot strings at 10 bulls, which give me a 30-shot match. The 3 shots are easy to score. There is an extra bull in the center for sighters and / or fouling shots.

I purchased the orange bull targets from pistoleer.com. They work great for old eyeballs like mine.

like having a target that I can score which enables me to track my progress. The A17 is just the right size for me shooting off the bench with a bipod with challenging scoring rings. The overall bull is 1 1/2", the 10 ring is 1/8", 9 ring 1/2", 8 ring .70", 7 ring 1 1/8", 6 ring 1 1/2".
