Reasonable factory.204 Ruger

270wsm

I have killed them close, now to kill'm far!!!!
i would like the opinion of the group on a reasonable factory .204 ,heavy barrel, good trigger. Price 400-600 ;D

The TC Ventures are very accurate. Barrels aren't "heavy" but they are heavy enough and triggers are good. A lot of rifle for the money. But aftermarket upgrades don't exist,no stocks, no triggers, nothing.

Howa makes a lot of rifle for the money too and comes with a nicer stock if you get the laminate wood. Plenty of aftermarket upgrades available.

Of course there is the 700. No description needed.

Probably be able to pick up a sporter weight Tikka for that price too, but not a heavy barrel.

Suppose your looking for a box of ammo for $12.95? ;D
Check out the used market, I use Gun Broker a lot. Sometimes you can get a deal. ;)

For a bit more you can get a CZ 527 either sporter or varmint barrel. Roughly $700 new, $400-600 used. Have had two that absolutely shoot bugholes. Come with a set trigger function at 8-12 ozs.

I would probably look for a used CZ on gunbroker or someplace. I have 2 rimfires and they shoot. I never hear anybody say anything bad about CZ and most times they really shoot. The TC might not be that bad. Got to gunbroker and type in 204. I'm sure you will get a bunch of guns shown. Matt

The single set trigger on the CZ's is pretty nice actually. Once set, it is VERY light. Lighter than any other factory varmint rifle to my knowledge

The price range you're describing would have been "reasonable" about ten years ago, but you can't get any quality CF rifle such as a 204 for that price nowadays.

Like other posters have noted, your best bet for a decent bolt gun in 204 would be either CZ or Howa. Some will say Savage, but they just don't do it for me in any way. Then you've got to consider a decent scope........ Best to figure at least a grand for scope and rifle if you expect any degree of quality at all.

I've got four 204's, and each barrelled action alone is worth more than the $400 - $600 mark. You'd be wise to save for a while and purchase a good used rifle.

If you do buy a CZ 527 with a wood stock - just verify barrel is free floated. I have several wood models in various calibers and one synthetic .204 Varmint. On my wood versions all are free floated and devcon bedded, although on most they shot very well right out of the box, prior to bedding. I am not sure what kind of quality or accuracy you are looking for - but both of my .204" will consistently shoot .3 to .5" 5 shot groups at 100 yds. with boring regularity. I consider that to be very good for a relatively inexpensive rifle. They may not be as pretty as a Cooper - but they will shoot.

Just looked on gunbroker and there was a beautiful curly maple stocked CZ in Indiana Pa. There was also a few other ones. Matt

Click on this link, all factory 204 rifles made.... I like the Savage rifles, but the Mossberg @ 549$ at cabellas is a deal...not flashy but accurate.

Best scope for the money for you...

Count my vote for a CZ527. I own 5 CZ 527's and the .204 will shoot 1/2" groups right out of the box. In fact, every CZ I own has shot sub MOA groups right out of the box. I think they are a bargain. If you have another choice I would suggest a Savage with accutrigger and accustock. They also shoot lights out.
