Reason for NP-2DD Reticle being most popular?

I am considering a NF-Scope and have noticed that the NP-2DD reticle seems to be the most popular, why is it more popular than a CH-3 OR CH-1. Thanks for your time!!

I'd say it's do to the floating Center Dot that is .180 (3/16") in diameter, the hold over Dot is 1/8", also the Horizontal and Vertical posts are Tapered (like the older Leupold Dot) towards the center which helps centering in mirage. Also there's no extra stuff in the field of view like on some with the ranging reticles.

Having owned and used a CH-3 for F-Class I'll say this, the .030 Center Dot became hard for me to see, more than once, thought it was the way to go but went back to my Premier/Leupold .125 dot and crosshair.

Beats me why, i don't care for them myself. Too much junk to look at,i like the CH2,just a plain dot on a fine CH. I had to take the NP2DD when i ordered my new NSX with the 1/8 min.clicks but i'm thinking sending it back to get the CH2 put in. My other one has the CH2 with 1/4 clicks. I would have kept my BR models but i didn't like the short eye relief, 5 min. less elevation plus the extra weight and length....jim

Good question.

I have a 12-42 BR with the 2DD. Use it for 600 and 1,000 yard target.

It's cute.

Seriously, it's not in any way a handicap compared to crosshair types. Really like the gap between the center dot and those "arrows" or lines. Great for minor hold over/side as you do have a reference point. Better than a dot for observing any cant. That lower dot is tiny. I have no use for it.

Just LOVE the scope. Optical quality near tops and adjustment quality above that.

Buy the reticle you like. My guess is they all work. What's good to have is the scope.

Remember - The NP2DD is clear and "cute".

At first I didn't think I would like it. Then got one and now just love it. Everything else looks cluttered! Try it.....you'll like it!

When your running your shots fast in heavy mirage you can frame your target real quickly with the heavy tapered crosshairs and when it is crystal clear you have the dot to place whereever you like it.
With straight skinny crosshairs in heavy mirage and a tiny dot you spend too much valueable time looking around.
I have 5 of the 12-42's and can pick which reticle I want and always come back to the NP-2DD.
It used to be cheap to switch reticles but rumor has it they are now charging $250.
That said I would choose what YOU like and not what other people like as it will set you back 20% of the cost of the scope to change it.
Resale value might be another reason. If I saw a pair of scopes listed and they were $150-$200 difference in price but the cheaper scope had the wrong reticle it isn't really cheaper when you add the $250 for a reticle change.

I think Lynn is spot on. I have two NP2-DD scopes, one in 12-42 BR and the other is a 3.5-15 nsk I actually use for hunting, when I bought the 3.5-15 I thought I would just have the reticle changed, but after finding out the cost I thought I would try it first, I didn't think I would like it for hunting but after a couple of seasons I really like it, I plan on buying two more of the 12-42's for my br rifles and a 8-32 for my long range hunting rifle, I think when you get used to one reticle it is better to stay with it. I think if you buy the np2-dd you will like it.

My first NF BR has the NP-2DD, 2 more followed and they meet my needs, and am very satisfied with them. Then purchased another from a member with the NP-R2, and after using it for a while, am also very impressed with it. The additional hash marks are working out well for me, without being cluttered. I see advantages with each, so it's difficult for me to say which is best. I also agree that the lower dot on the 2DD is very tiny, and in my case, I don't use it. So many excellent choices in the entire NF lineup, it's a tough decision to make. We are blessed to have high quality optics from NF, and other makers as well.

I have two 12-42 BR's with the NP-2DD, and love them.

Several years ago, I had a 12-42 NXS with CH1. I really like that reticule, because it makes it so easy to hold off precisely - expecially when time is running down. I later traded it (with more cash) for a March 10-60. I would not buy another March. Price is almost double cost of NF, with a limited 5 yr. warranty, and the quality is not much greater.

I guess i'm to old and set in my ways but they are a real pain to get level, to use them for holding is a joke unless your shooting on the next guys target. The bottom dot is worthless at 1K and 42 power and the 1/8 min dot is a lot better when conditions are going south......jim

I got the opportunity to peer thru a BR 42X with the NP-2DD reticle and found it to my liking. I prefer a dot, and see no difficulty in getting accustomed to the NF version. Just waiting for my BR 32X version to arrive that I purchased here to use on my Savage 6BRX for F-Class.

Scott
