Rear bag

I do all of my shooting off a bipod and sand bag. I did a little fooling around shooting off an old Caldwell rear bag over the week end. I shoot an RPR, couple of savages in thumb hole stocks. I also have a couple of Boyds pro varminter stocks. I do not compete. I shoot from a bench sometimes, prone others. If you had to have only ONE rear bag what would it be?I
Thanks Bill
P.S. Happy birthday America!!!

I have a couple of protektor bags and like them. They are affordable and they can be custom made for your setup as well.

I have a wedge shaped bag that I can stand up or lay down; squeeze or nudge the rifle on the bag.

Still I'd say go with 2 - a protektor rabbit ear and a lightweight squeeze bag that is almost zero trouble to carry.

+1. I, like Chris, have and use Protector Rear Bags. And I use a particular Rear Bag depending on the stock/rifle I am shooting. I do not believe there is such a thing as "one bag fits all" when chasing the best possible accuracy from each rifle I shoot. And I no longer compete, but still seek the best possible accuracy. And after years of shooting for score, that means a different bags (sometimes depending again on the stock on a particular rifle). Just me .02 worth (and yes I know that ain't worth a lot except for me).

Chris, Alex which protektor bag would you recommend for an RPR stock and which bag for a savage thumb hole or Boyd s pro varmint style stock?
Thanks to all, just looking to try new things.
Thanks Bill

Am thinking about a squeeze bag for RPR and AR's. (Weibad mini) Protector for "normal" stocks. Sorry for 2 posts, couldn't get picture and text together. What say you?
Thanks Bill

Squeeze bags can be good if you are looking to get slight elevation changes with that method. If you are shooting off of a front rest that has elevation adjustment then you might consider more of a fixed rear bag that the stock rests in. At the end of the day it’s all a matter of what you think will work best for your application. Alex made a great point when talking about bag selection for his different stocks. They are all different so one doesn’t fit all usually.

I've got a bunch of their bags that I acquired over the years and like them. As Chris said they will make you anything you want for a very reasonable price. I really like the little leather squeeze bags they made for me which the wife filled with steel cut oats.

Iowa Fox,

Could you take a Picture of your leather squeeze bags and Post?

they sound Interesting.

Here are two of the bags foxguy, I wish I would have put something in the pic for size reference. The small one is about the size of my hand. Two years ago I was in Wyoming shooting with Josh Cluff of HS Precision. I had a Cross Tac squeeze bag and he had two leather ones about the size in the pic. My Cross Tac wasn't working worth a hoot so Josh let me use his leather bags for my shots. They worked fantastic. When I asked him where he got them a friend had given them to him. I asked that friend and he couldn't remember where he got them. I suspicion they came from D. Holland or Skip Otto. I looked high and low but no bags like it and my wifes sewing mach will not sew that leather. When I called Protektor they were more than happy to make me a couple. Josh's did not have fill spouts but Protektor wanted to use them. I actually prefer without. If I get more I'm going to get them without spouts. My wife filled them with steel cut oats. Polished aluminum sits and slides the best on these leather bags for me.

Thanks, They look very nice. Protector does a very nice job.

I use the Protektor Bumble Bee rear bag. This is a bag with a heavy thick base. The base is 3/4" thick. You want a thick base so the bottom of the bag does not "roll"and not sit flat and stable on the bench top. I prefer the leather version. You can order the "ears" to which size ( height) you prefer. Mine are 2" high. The spacing on my bag is standard, no wide gap. With "heavy"sand (zircon) it weighs 9 1/2 lbs. It's expensive, $100 or so. When you place it on a bench top it feels rock solid and like it's stuck on. Use it all the time.

We were shooting prone off the rough ground out there is why we needed those puffy little squeeze bags. Bench or ground Protektor makes some good stuff. Anyone try one of their lightweight aluminum rests yet?
