Rear bag suggestions

My new Seb neo arrived and now I need to get a rear bag to be used for F-class open.
Looking for suggestions.

I like the Protektor "Doctor" model with the silver slick-top. They will make it any way you want it. MY suggestion: get a 1" thick base and MAKE SURE the space between the ears is correct for your rifle. They will build it to your exact specs. AND they will fill it and have it in your hands in 2 weeks!

After I purchased my new front rest, I found myself still struggling staying on target after each shot. Another shooter that I highly respect shot my rig and commented that he didn't know how I shot as well as I did using the rear bag I had. He let me use his Protektor DR and man oh man what a difference. They make two types, one for FTR and one for f-class. As Shootdots said, they will make it to your specs. Mine ran me around $160. Buy once cry once.....

Protector also will make any thickness spacers you would like. I would suggest you get a few thicknesses. Mine have come in handy more than once......
I have one of the big Edgewood bags with 3/4" spacing for a specific gun and that one really is an awesome piece of work ......I have 3 protector bags and they are great.........

Edgewood's new bag is great. They have always produced good quality and their customer service cannot be beat.

+1! The Doctor is (IMHO) the best around and is stout to get you back on battery better than others including the Edgewood Gator that I have also tested and own.

One more vote for Protector ,Great People Family Owned ordered my Bay 3M ears and all I asked for Special order
In my Hands in 2 weeks, and the price was very good.

How wide is your stock? I have Protector and Edgewood bags. Both are great. I do have a spare edgewood original bag filled with heavy sand for sale.

I saw they have the DR bag in a flat top and a top with a slope. What would be the preferred top for f-open

You're going to want to get the flat top bag. Measure the width of the bottom of your butt stock. They will make it to fit your rifle. I purchased the Super Slick Silver Bunny Ears - 1 1/4" Tall ( +$10.00 ). Have them fill it with heavy sand. They can do a better job than you and it's only $16.00. I asked for Extremely firm and love it. The leather will stretch over time but stay firm. The trick is to have the rear bag hard and flat. You should be able to take your shot and simply push your rifle back into position and be back on target. If you find yourself continually adjusting the rifle, the bag is too soft. The only other option I wish I had bought is the carrying handle....2 cents.

The edgewood is the nicest rear bag out there. I dont believe theres any rule in f-class about what can be in the bag. Lead shot will make it very stable!

My stock has a flat on the bottom that is a little over 5/8 inch by the grip and tapers to about 7/8 wide at the recoil pad. Is that common on most stocks? What ear spacing would be best for that? Would I be better off if the stock had the same dimension instead of the taper

You would definitely be better off without a taper as far as tracking goes. Ear spacing should equal the width of the flat.

Alex-In Mike Ratigan's book "Extreme Rifle Accuracy" he explains that lead shot is NFG for stabilty. He correlates it to trying to build something with a pile of ball bearings....it will always want to move. I never tried lead as it is illegal in SR BR, but his point makes a lot of sense.

True. However when laying a bag on the ground its very unstable and easily moved. The small amount of settling/movement of the shot is minor in comparison to the bag shifting all over. On the bench, no way would I put shot in the bag, like you said its illegal anyhow.
