Guys, I have a Protektor #13A rear bag.
This one...

I use it for my indoor benchrest (rimfire) shooting at 25 yards, and my rifle setup is a CZ457 varmint in an Oryx stock. Sightron Sll 36x scope.
Have a bag slider fitted too. I needed more rear elevation and tried a spacer under the rear bag, but thought the slider was easier (one less thing to add on when I'm setting up on the bench).
Slider is 20mm diameter stainless bar mounted to 9mm alloy plate.
Front rest is an alloy Bald Eagle that even when right down didn't allow me to sight the bottom line of the target so I needed to lift the rear of the rifle upwards...and all is good now.
I have packed the rear bag quite full...not rock hard but firm for sure. Ears are packed 'not quite' firm (but not soft).
My slider sits right down into the 'V' between the ears and runs on the top of the bag (not held up by the ears).
I do get the odd shot (usually a tad low) where I think "Eek...that's bad. How did I do that"?
Is that because my bag slider is sitting right down hard at the bottom of the 'V'?
I notice the #13A bag has a slight 'rock' to it. The hard bottom doesn't really do me any favours (but the perceived wisdom of the club where I shoot said get the hard bottomed bag).
I could buy a 'doughnut' sand bag to fit under the #13A, or buy a 'normal' #13 bag (soft bottom).
Currently have used the bag with the slope (Protektor 'Eagle' logo) facing forward. Will try later this week with the 'Eagle' (sloped surface) facing rearwards towards the shooter.
So...is the slider running at the 'V' bottom cause for concern? If so, what to do? Pack ears harder to stop the butt/slider going too deep into the 'V'? Put a soft (foam) spacer down in there so slider isn't sitting hard onto the leather?
Is the hard bottom of the #13A bag a problem (yeah, it's hard leather and certainly not flat. Thump it hard onto bench to try to make it sit flat but it still has a wee curve to it).
Buy a better and softer bag? Maybe the standard #13 bag?
I have a 'wrecked' neck from previous work injury so I can't sort of 'float' my head above the stock. I do need to actually hold the rifle and rest my cheek on the cheek rest to support my head. No freestyle shooting for me.
Thanks for your thoughts/comments.
