Rear Bag placement

Just curious on everyone’s opinion on their rear bag placement for prone shooting. You like it directly on the ground, on the shooting mat, placed in a hole in the mat, etc etc and why you like it there?

I'm pretty new to the F-Class shooting. I shoot a Savage F-Class 6MM BR - Open Class. Mid Range 600 yds.
I shot with the Rear Bag on my shooting mat, using a Phoenix Bi-Pod on the front.
My last five Matches 590-22x's,593-34x's, 594-31x's, 595-26x's, 596-29x's(not shot in that order). Being new at this, these matches were shot over 2-years in fairly good shooting conditions winds 5 - 12 MPH. My guess is shooting with the bag on the shooting mat won't hurt your scores.

My Experiance is - I have been Shooting for 18 years. Silhouette 22 LR, & 100,200,300 yards centerfire local competition fun matches.

I cut the padding from the mat so there is only the thin bottom liner of the mat between my bag and the shooting surface.

I feel it depends on the thickness of your shooting mat. I used a thick well padded mat last year and ended up cutting a hole for my rear bag. I recently bought a new thinner mat and my rear bag is very stable riding on top.

Hole in the mat works well. Helps to eliminate vertical that maybe induced by the mat.
