Reamers...

I decided I wanted to add a 6.5x47 to the stable. I took the action and barrel to the smith and he told me he didn't have one. So I told him I would buy one and he mentioned I could rent one much cheaper from 4d or rentalreamer.com

So, what are yalls thoughts on renting a reamer?

I don't want anything specific just a standard no neck turn 6.5x47.

I havent tried renting a reamer yet, but it kinda makes sence. I tend to look for what I want way ahead of time on ebay. I have bought some good reamers this way, but latley they have been going so high, better of to get new from brownels or midway!

Thanks...I see that point and I should've mentioned I typically don't duplicate calibers. Up to this point I haven't though, that is a very good point.

Selling the new reamer after your work has been done will get you a good chunk of your money back, and you know for sure the reamer is exactly to your spec's.. You can't do that with a rental reamer...

I use Reamer Rentals all the time. The reamers are always perfect and extremely quick shipping. They come with a return label so returning is a snap. I own many reamers, but for when I'm only doing one barrel, renting is the way to go.

And they rent piloted reamers with various pilots. You would be near $200 when all said and done to buy.

One barrel, one time, I rent every time. If it's something that I might be doing multiples, I buy it. I used to buy all of them BUT they were $60 instead of $100-150. 4-D also rents a line of match reamer with floating pilots. They list the neck sizes on their web site. Nice people to deal with and have never had a dull one yet. Preachers solution is also a good one and I have gone that route also.
