Reamer rentals

We rent from 4D on a fairly regular basis and as far as I know there has never been anything other than minor issues with wait time. Regarding Manson, one of my shooting buddies just took delivery of a wildcat reamer slightly ahead of schedule.

I had contacted Manson a while back but he doesn't do any custom reamers and only produces SAAMI.

This is incorrect. We make all manner of custom reamers. We have two guys in the shop that spend virtually all of their time making custom reamers.

We also try to keep a large selection of SAAMI and CIP spec on the shelf and a few common wildcats too.

As a general rule, we only turn down two types of custom work:

1- oddball, specialized reamers that our machines just won't make.

2-chamber reamers that we can't reasonably grind out of one of our hundreds of existing reamer blanks. This is generally limited to really big stuff or really little stuff.

I have rented 4D reamers many times, over the years. For one off chamberings, only had trouble one time. Evidently I was the first to use it, PTG reamer, the neck was too short, could not chamber a round, asked for a correct neck reamer, got it free, my problem was solved. Really wasn't 4D's mistake. Been happy with all except that one time maybe 10 years ago.

For those people that don't like to rent, you can buy them. It really is as simple as that.

I've been upset with PTG in the past but they have the best selection and will do custom reamers. I had contacted Manson a while back but he doesn't do any custom reamers and only produces SAAMI.

PTG will do C.I.P. reamers.

I have pondered renting reamers in the past, but for me it takes me mostly time to do anything...I have 2 new reamers I haven't used yet, and it's gonna be at least a couple more months to get my machines setup to do the action and chambering. It just seems to make sense to own the reamers to me. You can always cut down and/or re-chamber a barrel if you have the reamer on hand. But the funny thing is I'm not above buying used reamers. Even in that case, I'd like to own the reamer I chamber my rifles in. Call me old fashioned...;)
Manson Reamers just did two custom Reamers for me this year.

Have used them many times because they had the item needed. They seem to have an uppity attitude towards the customer. Any attempt at contacting them is futile. You get a boiler plate "don't call us, we'll call you" response. When you get a little shitty with them they usually respond with something like "we have replied many times, the problem must be with your email" or something like that. Only use them if I have to. Buying the tool and reselling sounds like good advice.
I couldn’t find. 7 PRC reamer anywhere else so I looked again at their website. There were many comments that portrayed the attitude you and others have described so I immediately remembered why I have never rented from them.
Sheesh. When they state on their website that they are the experts and the customer is usually wrong, it certainly isn’t going to get better once there is an issue.
