Reamer rentals

Have been using 4D reamer rentals for about 10 years for various jobs and always had good fast service, however I rented a 7PRC reamer from them earlier this year and never received anything. When I finally got in contact they said it would be a month out. I found a member here that had just received one with gages and he was nice enough to let me use it and I paid him what it would cost to rent . Had 4D return my payment.
Ordered a 300WSM reamer and gages last week and they charged me, but no word as to shipping and email inquiries have had no response.
Poor service now. Anyone else in the business?

They normally do quite well. I'd guess there were simply a couple of people ahead of you for that reamer. Either that, or it may have been out for sharpening or similar. They shoulda said so either way, though. I use them for hunting calibers and such...always had good service from them. I like to have my own competition reamers to my specs but hunting guns are just a different animal.

Correct I use for hunting guns only.

As an alternative there's Elk Ridge. I don't know if they're any better. I've had minor frustrations with both of them.

The 300AAC reamer I rented was one I had trouble with. Not sure exactly what happened but I *think* it must have been a 300 Whisper reamer. My advice would be to check fit with factory ammo because it wouldn't chamber in my barrel even though headspace was fine.

Also - carefully inspect the reamer before you use it. The other issue I had was the .223 Rem reamer was sent damaged and left a ring in the middle of the shoulder which screwed up the headspace measurement. I suppose I should have known better than to presume it wasn't damaged but apparently that was a HUGE mistake.

Both times their offer of restitution was a free reamer rental but I pay shipping.

I declined because I figured getting a bad/incorrect reamer once was bad enough. Why take a chance on having more problems?

As I said, no more renting reamers for me. Done with that.

It gets expensive if you do occasional hunting rifles for clients. It’s nice that a supplier can supply Saami
Reamers for rent for that occasional job. Agree for precision shooting your own reamer is best.

I rented from 4d last year. A few weeks later i had not received the reamer. Took two emails for them to reply that one other person was ahof me then my turn. Everything did go smooth, i just did not know how the rental process went. Got another one i need to rent but debating on rent or buy. Not a match rifle just for a 20 practical

As I see it, owning your own cutting tools is just part of "doing business". I rented twice, had problems both times. If a client want's a chamber I don't happen to have is up to them to supply the reamer and I don't cut 'um a lot of slack as I will 'test' the cutter in a barrel butt before using it in a barrel blank. I want to see the shoulder and throat. There's a certain make of reamer I'll not use. Just too many problems with them. I own a very large selection of SAAMI spec reamers from .22RF through .458 Lott and everything common in between. I own quite a few "custom" reamers, also. "The cost of doing business"
