They could, But I wouldn't send anything to them that you aren't willing to lose. Many people have sent things to them and never got them back. It would also take about a year to get it back if you did get it back. And it could be messed up.I have a 284W reamer with .315" neck, could PTG regrind this reamer to 6.5x284 with 291 neck or better to go with a new reamer with my specs. thanks
I would more recommend MansonI have a 284W reamer with .315" neck, could PTG regrind this reamer to 6.5x284 with 291 neck or better to go with a new reamer with my specs. thanks
It says in stock, But it's most likely not in stock. Edit: My bad, I thought it said in stock on PTG website, Not Brunos, I'm sure Brunos has it. I did not click the link at first..290 neck, in stock
Yeah, Manson quoted me $270 and 5 months,A while back I called JGS about having my .22/243 reamer sharpened. Month and a half+ and $140. Remember when you could buy a new reamer with a removable pilot for that much?
A man of your talents should be making reamers for us.Yeah, Manson quoted me $270 and 5 months,
and couldnt hold .0005" tolerance without charging $50 extra on top of that
If I want a certain Dia. neck, then I want a certain Dia. Neck ... What the heck?
I thought someone like Manson could do it no sweat, it makes me wonder what we're really getting if we have to request it ....and they have to charge extra to hold good tolerances that I would think should be held to begin with.
(I mean I can hold .0005" with a manual lathe??? - When I was a CNC machinist we usually held +/- .0003"
in the morning anyway, before the bearings warmed up, then we relaxed it to .0004")
It's like, "Oh ooh wait! You want a good reamer? Oh ok well we have to charge extra for THAT!")
--------------------
they must have not wanted repeat business, or I don't give them enough repeat business
one or the other. But at least they said they could do it which i think is better than PTG.
I still prefer Manson regardless because their Reamers cut like hot knives through butter.
Effortlessly with no chatter,

Copy and pasted email response:
Good morning John,
We can make the reamer to your specifications. We do apply additional charges for the tighter tolerance requirements.
The reamer cost will be $270 for the reamer plus an additional $105 for the special tolerances.
If you can live with -.0000 / +.0005, we can cut the additional cost to $50
We are currently quoting five months for production.
Let me know if you have any questions and if you would like to proceed.
Best regards,
Ray
A pilot? Who uses a pilot?Regrinds usually put the pilot farther in front of the throat. Not ideal
On a 5r I doA pilot? Who uses a pilot?
GASP!On a 5r I do
Ya ever machined sharpie marker off of steel, without cutting steel?A man of your talents should be making reamers for us.
I used to get heat a bunch of years ago for not using pilots on 4 or 6 grooves. I dont because theres no need. But on a 5 groove with a 6 flute reamer there will be tool push off. Period. Some reamers and barrels it will be minor and you can get away with out a pilot. Some will fight you to the end. You can ream the rifling out so the reamer doesnt cut it until the very end, theres plenty of tricks you can can play. But on a 5r a pilot helps. It doesnt have to be tight. About half the barrels I do are 5r and I chamber barrels 5-6 days a week. Its not chatter, its push off. I can see it in a groove immediately. The longer the reamer and the longer the freebore the worse it will be. Reamers flex a lot. You have to support the front of the reamer on some of these. Not all reamers will require it. There are no rules here.GASP!
