Reamer question

This may not be the right forum as this deals with having a chamber cut to a specific bullet [cast] shape. But probably applies to some form of jacketed bullet shooting.
It it better to have a reamer cut with the specific throat included ?? of see if the gun smith has a chamber reamer that the specific throating reamer can be attached, OR do the chamber and throating in two separate operations ??

You could do it either way. If the desired throat is shorter than standard, you would probably need a special reamer ground for that. If longer, a throater would work. anoher option would be to send a few dummy rounds off to PTG and he will grind a reamer to match.

Sometimes "better" is determined by how much money you want to spend. I have always said, "I can do anything you want, as long as you have enough money". Kinda crude but true.

I'm a contractor, and my saying to my customers is "Nothing is impossible, it just costs more money"

Back to the reamer. I have my own reamers and I prefer to have freebore built into the reamer for consistency.

There are 3 rules to follow in gun building or anything else. You have 3 options so pick only 2: Fast Cheap Good Remember, only 2 of the 3. Best bet is as stated above, make some dummy rounds, send to PTG and have a reamer made for your dimensions. Most likely Dave will know the specs off the top of his his head. He is unreal :)
