Reamer for 6.5X47 Lapua

I have most of the components for my 6.5X47L build, BatM and Krieger 30”, 1.25” Straight taper with 8.5 twist barrel.
Now I’m trying to decide which bullet and reamer to use. If you like your 6.5X47L, I want to see what you think before I go any further on this build.

Which bullet Berger 130 VLD, or ?

Reamer spec for that particular bullet ? - Nk dia and freebore

.175" freebore would work well.

I had dave at PTG make a 6.5x47 reamer for myself and the specs i had were .293" neck with .170" FB ... This was designed for use of 139 scenars and the neck dia is one that allows me to only have to do a minimal cleanup of the necks for concentricity..

That was for an 8 twist Kreiger pipe , being that yours is an 8.5 I would think that the FB would be closer to .160" or less (probably going to be using 120-130 class bullets) .... I would call PTG or whatever reamer builder you choose and discuss what bullets you plan on using along with your velocity expectations... So far in my experience the 6.5x47 can do great things as far as shooting the 140 class bullets but the throat has to be one that is somewhat generous to get there..

If you really arent sure as to what class bullet you'd like to use I personally would throat it short and also purchase a throating reamer in the event your barrel does in fact like to shoot heavier bullets but you need more case capacity.

The no turn neck would be .2945-.295" if memory serves me correct.

Get a .294 neck and .175" freebore. .175" freebore will handle 100 gr. bullets up to 140's

I am a little concerned having the 8.5 twist barrel, that it will not like the 140s. But guess I will have to shoot them to find out. Thank you Erik for the advise.

Mine are .294" no-turn neck and .123" freebore. Not enough boiler room for the 139 to 140 grain bullets to make sense shooting them over the 130 VLD. At least not with H4350 and my8.5 twist 26" barrels.

Remember that freebore grows. With 1.400 rounds on it, my CBTO at lands with 130 has gone from 2.10" to 2.14", so the freebore is around .153" about 1/2 way thru the barrel's life (I assume). 2,900 FPS is easy with the 130s and my set up, BTW.
