Really Need Some Help With My Nightforce 12-42X56

I've owned this scope for about four years and have had no problems. It's mounted on a Weaver 20 MOA base and Burris rings. I use it on a Savage F Class Model 12 for 300 & 600 yard shooting.

Having disassembled the parts in order to change barrels, when re-assembled it won't function as previously. Doesn't make sense....I know.

For WHATEVER reason....and can't explain it....with as much adjustment dialed into it as possible, it shoots about 8" high at 100 yards.

What I"d like to know is how to take the elevation settings of the scope back to zero.

I'm sure I didn't explain it very well....in over my head here...but that's nothing new!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

George

Spin center the scope , take a shoe box , , Google it . It'll be easier . That will get your scope back to optical centered

New barrel. Look through it and see where it points. Set the scope on that spot. Done.

At first is read like you took the scope apart. All you did was remove it from the action. As stated, the new barrel is not the old barrel. You may have to change scope shimming for the new one. Unless you messed up, the barrels are different. Should be no big deal. Do a boresight, make mounting adjustments and done.

This is the fourth scope I've had on this action, and I've never had any problem like this. I believe I have a scope problem, not a barrel problem. When I turn the elevation knob all the way "down", it still shoots 8" high.

The answer's probably very simple...I just don't know it.

Thanks for the feedback.....

No, I didn't take the scope apart....

After I couldn't get it to zero at the point of aim, I removed the elevation cap (the one with the 3 setscrews, not the protective outer cover) and have tried to resolve the issue by moving the internal brass knob. This has not worked.

Erector tube spring stuck? Have had CHEAP scopes do it and a couple light taps with a screwdriver handle cured the problem.
From NRA American Rifleman:
Problems occur only when we turn the dial counter-clockwise, and erector-tube movement depends on the spring. Tapping the dial afterward can then knock a balky erector tube loose, allowing the spring to shove it against the adjustment screws—but so can bumping a rifle’s recoil pad on the ground, simulating recoil. However, some European scopes have left-threaded adjustments, another reason many shooters always tap the adjustments no matter which way they’re turned.

Was your barrel a mass produced replacement barrel, or was it fit by a smith? I've heard of bent barrels before and if it's pointing down that would do it. It's hard to believe the scope suddenly took a crap. I have the same scope, 15 years old and going strong.

Well, I'll take my crow medium rare.....

After saying a couple of times...firmly....it's not a barrel problem....I'm here to say....It's a barrel problem.

I was dropping something off with my gunsmith today, and was talking it over with him, and his comment was that with the way the Savage is put together...it could well be the barrel.

So I came home, took off the (Savage factory) 6 BR barrel, and put the Shilen 6 Dasher back on, and voila! No scope problem.
