re: Purpose of the Nationals

What we need to do is have one of these matches twice a year, we could do it at brrc in st louis- the best facilities in the country to do every discipline. We could even add in pistols and shotguns sometime. Theres some guys here from there that i know would help, i know mr ulrich would help if he could as well. I would do whatever i needed to do to make it happen whether its scheduling or whatever. We could do one every spring and fall starting this next fall to give everybody a chance to prep. October and march sounds about right

I like that idea. A twice a year match that brings group and score shooters together can only help things and it does sound like fun.

I like one day matches but this should maybe be a two day event. Group shooters seem to like multi day matches and it would allow for more time to get everything in without a rush and more time for camaraderie among folks from all 3 major short range disciplines and the new gba long range guys and gals, should they want to attend.

St Loius is great or there are some nice new ranges in Tennessee, if they were willing.

Group and score are both tough, but are quite different in how you work the target. Not that one is harder than the other..just different. Both are great games. Opening things up for at least 13.5lb guns is a good thing, too. Most everyone agrees that a 10.5lb ppc will shoot with the hv rifles and most score shooters use 13.5lb guns...So, no need for new equipment to buy. Just show up and shoot!

thats not bad one day for 8 targets isn;t going to get many to travel far. two days and all different segments would be good..

IBS was going to do something like that but it never came together instead of playing in your short range sand box they were going to do it at 300 yds What do you think ? Sight in and no more sighters, 10 shots for group and score..... winners of the relay go against each other again.... jim
The Tack Driver will be held on November 14th at Mid Carolina Gun Club. 300 meters. Two divisions, bolt and gas. Don't have to belong to any sanctioning body. Four targets for group and four for score. More details to come.

We would need moving backers for the sr group, make it a hv match in all sr- group/score (nbrsa rules) and ibs light gun rules for 600yd group score (ibs 600 format)
If 100/200 etc, I agree about the backers, but at the proposed 300 meters, I think we could get by without them, to start. They're still a good idea to have, though. At that distance, would stationary backers work?
It's a moot point if it becomes a 2 yardage event for both disciplines at 100/200, which is what I think would be ideal. Then, they are needed, without a doubt.
A Saturday with 100 yard group and score, then a Sunday 200 score then group...would be sweet.

They are set up to shoot moving backers at 100/200. To get the 600 in we may just have to do it on sunday and a 200yd group then score on sat. Maybe rotate it next year to 100yd and 600

I think it has potential to turn into a pretty big shoot and would be good for everyone involved and all disciplines. There should be more crossover rather than animosity between orgs and group vs score. We all shoot br. Most score shooters use 13.5lb guns and most group guys use 10.5lb guns. That's the biggest thing standing between the two, IMO. And yes, I know there's a lot more water under that bridge but that's why this is such a great idea, to me.

I assume you're referring to St Louis. I have no problem with there. Great place to shoot, period. I only mentioned the Tn ranges because they are new and very nice ranges, but no moving backers. One does utilize electronic targets but I have no experience with how they'll work with zero or teen groups. I've heard that they have their limitations where that's concerned. I could be wrong.

I'm not poking the bear here so don't shoot me, but I wish there was no 10.5lb class anywhere, fwiw. JMHO, but that only limits who can come shoot group with their score rifle, for example. I know, change is slow and sometimes for good reason, but to complain about a lack of shooters when the rules alienate virtually every score shooter, which is a growing segment and outnumber group...and they already have br rifles and like the sport, to boot. Seems like a natural area for allowing a change to happen...to me. Not my call and not even saying it should happen. Just throwing it out there.
FWIW, I'm finishing a 10.5lb gun now, to compete in group. It costs money. I'm certainly not made of that stuff. It would've been nice to just rebarrel my score gun to shoot group, is all.

We’ll just have to shoot score if theres no moving backers. St louis is a world class operation with room for over a hundred shooters. Only kelblys can compare

Youre alienating 99% of the group shooters saying no 10.5lb guns. I agree but you go to a 100person 4 gun match and youll be lucky to see a 13.5. Until they change the rules thats just the way it is. Id rather shoot a hv because they just work better and hide a few bad habits but as long as 2 of the 4 classes call for it we’re stuck. In this match nothing is saying theres a 10.5lb limit- i proposed it to be all hv

St Louis is the gold standard, no doubt. But the range near Dixon Springs, Tn, can be mentioned in the same breath. I've been to both. Different range, but Dead Zero, also in Tn, has potential to be even better than St. Louis, with a little more work. I'm just excited that there are two ranges in that area that can even be mentioned in the same breath as St. Louis!
