Re-chamber or sell

I have a 26" SS match grade 6mm 3 groove 14 twist Pac-Nor barrel chambered in 6BR mounted on a Rem 700. I have not been able to find a good bullet/powder combo that gives consistent groups. Other than a 6PPC, does anyone have a suggestion for another cartridge to re-chamber this barrel?

If it wont shoot 68s of a known quality, rechambering is a waste of time. I would contact pac nor about a replacement or cut it off an inch or two and see if that helps first. A 6br should shoot good right out of the gate so something isnt right somewhere. Surely you have gone thru the bedding,scope/mounts/bases ? I had a cracked stock that gave fits one time! Double check all untill you are sure its the barrel, then call pac nor. Im sure they will handle it if its a turd. Good luck !

What is it's accuracy , what are your accuracy goals ? Rechambering to a diff cartridge isn't a cure for anything ( unless your throat is wiped out ) . What scope ? What type of shooting ,100 , 200 yds or more , using a bench with a good frt and rear set up ? Free recoil ? What's your trig pull?
Will try to help but lots of variables .
Gary

Thanks, I have checked everything and I have a ton of Berger bullets ranging from 60-70grs, a few pounds of Varget and others, a good assortment of primers and Lapua and Norma brass. My factory Savage 8 twist 30" 6BR shoots less than .5 MOA at 200 yards with my handloads and this is a used barrel I bought off this site. I've had this Pac-Nor barrel for over 3 years now, do you think they would do anything after all this time?

Gary, my accuracy is terrible, 1+ MOA at 100 yards. I would like to see .5 MOA or better. I use a Weaver 36x at 100 yards on a concrete bench. I've tried different front rest with rear bags, bipods with rear bags and sand bags. All shouldered and free recoil. The action is bedded in the original laminated stock. The action was trued and chambered by Pac-Nor. The trigger is set at 1-1/2 pounds. I hope this gives you some insight to my issue

Get it bore scoped. It may be washed out. Always wonder when you buy used. A set back and take an inch off the muzzle, it may shoot like new. But the bore scope will tell you if its worth doing.

Alintx, my used factory Savage barrel shoots great, it's the new Pac-Nor barrel that sucks!!

Riflewoman, I'm not quite there yet, I'd like to try something else first. ;D

Possibility you have a chambering issue?

John I think anything is possible at this point but my brass looks very goo once its removed from the chamber with no pressure signs (hard lift or sticking case), necks are straight and concentric. I'm not looking for speed from this rifle just accuracy.

I was going to list the different combinations of bullet/powder/primer I've used but I think it would be easier for me to asked if anyone could tell me what they use. I have over 15 different powders and some nine or so different bullet brands and weights and the majority of all the different primers.

Thanks so far for everyone's comments and suggestions. I'm looking forward to more.....

I think you are right.

Sorry for responding late . I would agree . Have it bore scoped , a good one ,the digital will just show copper . ( I haven't tried the new Lyman scope ) . If nothing is obvious , I would estimate round count and contact the maker . I may slug the barrel if it was mine .
Good luck , Gary

if it has been sitting around for 3 years, have you checked the crown? I like to go through the cheapest fixes first!

Also, is the scope a Known quantity, they go bad just like barrels

I will check with my gunsmith to see if he has a bore scope. As far as round count I stopped recording around 250 so I would guesstimate about +/- 325 now. I have done the Q-tip test on the crown and it appears to be good, the barrel sports a muzzle break. I have a Weaver T36 mounted to it. By the way what do you mean by "slug the barrel"?

"Egyptian river" that's cute!!

Agree Dusty , but one that is not responding ,may show a flaw . I have seen this many times . Not on every bad shooting barrel but you must rule out it out .

Guys, before I started this post >:( frustration got the best of me and made me order ::) another barrel (9 twist 22BR) from a different manufacturer. I wanted to use the 14 twist 6BR as my varmint gun but hopefully the 22BR wouldn't disappoint me ;).

While its true you can't tell if a barrel will shoot thru a bore scope, you can get an idea of round count from the throat wear. Can also see bad spots that may be tearing the bullets up. Also try a different brake, and shoot it without the brake and see if it changes anything. Once again, Good luck !

Ive never been able to look at a barrel with a borescope and tell if its gonna shoot or not- and i do this every day.
Amen to that. Rocky road bores sometime are one holers. No figuring that one out.
